Calendar Events / Announcements '16 I / Re: Fox's Rocky Horror Remake
« on: January 06, 2016, 04:01:29 AM »
I'm questioning the need for this remake.  The original is a classic for most of us of "a certain age," and I think for many younger people who were born years after the 1975 film.  Also, we have the recent BBC live version of the stage show, which I thought was great!  This remake is going to have some pretty big teddies to fill...

Calendar Events / Announcements '15 II / Trask and Abigail in today's world
« on: December 19, 2015, 03:13:53 AM »
I don’t intend to open up a controversial “can of worms” in this post, but after watching (for the first time in many years) DS episode 385, in which Abigail and Trask—in their religious fervor—accuse Victoria of being a witch, I cannot help but compare Abigail and Trask to Kimberly Davis, the religious fanatic in Kentucky, who used her religious beliefs to deny marriage licenses to gay couples.  How appropriate that DS, which (I believe) has a large gay following, made such comments about religious fanatics almost 50 years ago!

Maybe you're lucky NOT to have SPIKE.  Isn't it like (formerly) a redneck/a$$hole male cable channel?

Seriously?  Maybe I've been living in a cave, but we now have reality TV lip-sync competitions?  Like Dancing with the Has-Beens?  (Except JG-L is no has-been.)  I cannot believe that the general public actually watches this stuff.  At least DS--in spite of its flaws--was creative and original, and captured the attention of those of us who were looking for something new in the late 1960s.

Sorry,  but I cannot validate this program.  I'm actually insulted that the TV networks consider this a "talent" venue.

I can't say which disc it is on, but I remember seeing that skit listed while perusing the episode guides for the show.

Calendar Events / Announcements '15 II / OT Carol Burnett "Lost Episodes"
« on: September 22, 2015, 02:19:57 AM »
I hope this post doesn’t annoy too many people, since it does not have anything to do with DS—directly, that is—but I have been watching shows on “The Carol Burnett Show—The Lost Episodes” set since last week when I received the collection and I must say that I am in heaven watching these shows, many of which ran concurrently with DS in the late 60s—early 70s.  As a DS fan of a “certain age” (oh, well, I’m almost 60!), CB was another show from my youth.  If I can watch CB and DS to the end of my days, I will die happy.  [ghost_wink]

The price is WAY too high for a reproduction (as noted in the description). [ghost_wacko]

15 years ago, I paid just around $100 for an original HODS (approx.) 40x27-inch poster, and $80 for an original NODS (approx.) 60x40-inch poster, both on thick card-stock.  They were unframed, but are now professionally-framed (framing cost more than the posters!) and hanging in my living room.

I wouldn't pay $2.00 for those reproductions.

Well, Frank Smith was shot and killed and died (as I understand it, AGAIN), so maybe two day's work (or one, actually, since they now shoot multiple episodes in a single day) didn't interest Mr. Ryan.  Just speculating... [ghost_wink]

I'm taking this as a recommendation and have just ordered season one.  FYI, I am on episode five of "Penny Dreadful"'s first season, and enjoying it much.  Thanks for sharing your thoughts on both.

Thanks for the well wishes.  It was a good day--even if it brings me yet another year closer to 60.  LOL.

Current Talk '14 II / DS Youtube parody
« on: July 08, 2014, 01:45:41 AM »
I've been trying to find a parody of DS that I watched on YouTube a few years back, but can't come up with anything. It's not the "Dank Shadows" parody, but one with the same male performer playing both Barnabas and a spot-on Julia/Grayson vocal impersonation.   Any help in finding this again will be greatly appreciated. [ghost_grin] Thanks.  Brian

yes, MB. In his Ohio hometown after he left New York.

I knew Keith back in the early 1980s, after he returned from New York to Dayton, Ohio.  He started the Kettering Theater Under the Stars, and ran it for many years, I think nearly up until he died.  About "Cruising," Keith told me that he originally had a larger role in the film, and had been slated to be one of the victims--but his role was either cut before shooting or "left on the cutting room floor."
