I'm ignoring the charity comments and such, and only want to say that I am planning to attend next year's Fest.  It'll be my ten year anniversary since attending the 1993 Fest at the Marquis.  Can't wait to finally meet some of y'all.

From SHADOWGRAM online:  "Dennis' ashes were scattered at sea" and "the family requests that donations to honor the memory of Dennis Patrick be made to the Actor's Fund." (The Actors' Fund of America, 5757 Wilshire Blvd., Suite 400, Los Angeles, CA 90036.)

As a staff member for Actors' Equity Association, I'd like to share with you all some of the things the Actors' Fund does for our community.

Actors who are having difficult times financially may apply to the Fund for financial assistance.  The actor must present proof of his/her current financial situation, including bank statements, payroll checks, etc., along with a specific request for the use of the money.  The Fund has assisted Equity members with whom I am acquainted with such things as a one month mortgage payment, payment of an electric bill, payment of a doctor bill not covered by insurance (or payment of a bill if the actor is uninsured), assistance with a child care payment, etc.

This assistance is not a loan, and therefore does not have to be paid back.  Most of the actors I know who have received assistance from the Actors' Fund have made regular contributions to the Fund once they get back "on their feet," so to speak.

I only post this to affirm that the Actors' Fund is a bonafide and positive resource for the entire acting community.

You can check it out at http://www.actorsfund.org.

Thanks,

Brian

I saw Keene Curtis as Albin in the national tour of LA CAGE way back in 1984--Peter Marshall played Georges, and Ronald Dennis, a Dayton native, played 'the maid."  After the show, my friends and I joined Ron for drinks, and Mr. Curtis came by to say "hi."  He was very nice and friendly.  Sad that he's passed.

I first read about Mr. Patrick's death in the Shadowgram email that Marcy sent out.  Then I went through my usual routine of checking the trade sites, and read an online article at Backstage.com about the fire. . .though I've never met Dennis Patrick, while reading the article I felt as though I was reading about losing a friend with whom I'd lost contact, and I felt great sadness.

Perhaps that's how we all feel about our DS actors--they're very much our friends, whether we've met them personally or not.  Because we've seen them on TV and at conventions--and because they've made themselves so accessible and friendly--they are all part of our extended DS family.

If any of you out west attend a memorial service for Mr. Patrick, please say a little thank you in your prayers on my behalf for the joy he has brought us.

(. . .I honestly haven't been ignoring your ideas for the Robservations Archive. It's just that I've kind of had my hands full with other things lately.  I keep telling myself that things will get done all in good time.

I know you aren't ignoring me. . .we all have real jobs and lives, so sometimes our cyber hobbies have to take a backseat to REAL LIFE.  (Hey, what a concept!)  And, yes, everything will get done--it's not as though you're in a rush with the clock to crank out a complete episode of DS every day.  LOL.

I'm no longer able to access the archives.  It says there's a error.  I'm not concerned--I know it'll be worked out in time.

Hey, Bob--I have DORIAN GRAY (the old MGM version) on tape.  Where does Anita Bolster appear?

Hey, all y'all who've been reading this post--please go on over as Darren suggests and post your wish to see NODS and HODS in restored versions.    Come on--make a difference in DS Fandom!!  Let the powers that be at WB and TCM know how much we want to see these films in their restored formats.

Vlad, I taped in Saturday night at Midnight (EDT in FL).  Also featured was the Lockwood-Matthews mansion that was used in the finale of HODS.  It was neat to see the interiors of both mansions--esp. since we know them so well from HODS (and NODS).

Thanks, Midnight and MB for the invitation to participate in the chat.  I have tried to find it by following the directions the IM, but to no avail.  (I saw an increase in those of us "cousins" online around 10 EDT.)  Did I do something wrong?  Did I miss the chat?  Oh, please tell me it's not my fault but instead my computers!

I received my Curtuis Collection from Deep Discount DVD today.  Packaging is like the DS collection.  The video (when compared to the MPI videotape releases) is excellent.  Unfortunately, the audio has some problems:  DORIAN GRAY and TURN OF SCREW has an audio transfer that forces all sound to the back speakers when one plays the disc with Dolby ProLogic turned on.  I had to switch my audio to Stereo to get the sound in front of me.  (This is a minor complaint, but I had to say it.)

Both set 2 and the 4 Dan Curtis discs should be out soon. My editor at the VideoHound guide just received finished product screeners.

But that means MPI is STILL releasing them late.  What's the problem?  BestBuy nearly always has DVDs a week early. . .(not that I'm crazy about BestBuy due to my past problems.)   :' (Sigh. . . I'm too busy at work and thus to tired to care.)

« on: August 29, 2002, 06:15:44 AM »
If you've never seen this classic (which I'm awaiting on DVD to replace my MGM VHS copy), please DO check it out.  I first saw it in Oxford, Ohio in 1976 at an all-night movie marathon at a tiny Oxford theater that also was shwoing "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde" and "Mad Love."  ("Freaks" was shown between these other two films. I think my friend and I  got back to his dorm room at 6 am. ;))

"Freaks" is sometimes unsettling, but it makes this gay quasi-liberal even more empathetic to those who have no control over their physical/emotional destiny.  That said, the movie is also very uplifting when one considers that the "underdogs" take responsibility for themselves and "undo" those with undeserved power.

Watch it--and then let's hear what you have to say, please.

I searched several stores yesterday for the Dan Curtis Macabre Collection (or any individual titles in that collection) to no avail.  This was suppoed to be released yesterday as well.  I ordered from Deep Discount DVD last evening--hoping for a delivery by Saturday--but I'm afraid MPI has failed in delivering as planned and I'll get it sometime next week--if not later--and my Credit Card will still be charged.  Ah well, so much for being anxious about these things!  After 45 years one would think I could be more patient and wait until I actually see my wish list DVDs in stores.   :-/
