BTW, Tony-winner Keene Curtis will show up in the 1840 storyline.
I was fortunate enough to see Keene Curtis as ALbin in LA CAGE AUX FOLLES, opposite Peter Marshall (remember him from HOLLYWOOD SQUARES?) in Cincy, OH in 1985.  Afterwards, my friends and I had drinks with Ronald Dennis (the "Maid"), and Keene stopped by to say "hi."  He was quite the gentleman--and had quite an attractive companian with him.  I'll leave it at that--the point is, he was a very sweet man (and he was EXCELLENT in the show.)

LOVE the actress who played Mrs. Hutchins.  What was her name?  This is the first of 3 roles she played on DS.  I believe she was in hoDS as Mrs. Pettibone, too.  (One of my pal Nicky's fave characters!

FYI, Camila Ashland later appeared in "V" the miniseries, parts one and two.  She has a small role in part one, but a substantial--and surprising--role in part two.  I have to admit, I bought the DVD of part two only because I knew she was featured.   ;)

Watching the DVD is like watching the show the first time it aired--and if you, like me, have compared some DVD episodes against the VHS tapes, you'll know what I mean.  The picture on the DVD is far superior to VHS version.

I just couldn't get in. . .I'm very unhappy.  I even downloaded mIRC just before the chat and tried every way to log on with my registered name.  No luck.  Glad there were others who were able to be there.  I apologize for not keeping my word on this--but "it wasn't my fault."  Anyway, I can't wait to find and read the transcript.

Calendar Events / Announcements '03 I / Re:OT--Survey
« on: April 16, 2003, 04:12:40 AM »

1.  What do you do for a living?
2.  How many years have you been doing this?
3.  Are you satisfied with salary and benefits?
4.  Do you like or dislike your co-workers?
5.  Do you look forward to going to your job?
6.  Why did you choose this career?
7.  What do you like most and least about your job?

1.  Union Business Agent, Actors' Equity Association.
2.  7 years.
3.  Yes, very satisfied.
4.  Like all co-workers.
5.  98% of the time, yes (there are days when I just want to say to hell with everything and stay home--LOL).
6.  Security, opportunity to "make a difference" and give something back to all the actors I've known, loved and worked with.
7.  Most:  Independence, integrity, "doing the right thing," co-workers.  Least:  dealing with morons and stupid managers on the other side (i.e., company management employing my actors), stress.

Hope this helps.

Darren, I'm putting it on my calendar, and I'll do everything possible to "be there."  I'm really shocked at the negative reactions so far--come on folks--let's get out priortied straighten out out here.   :-

As most of you are aware, our beloved Louis Edmonds appeared on Broadway in the 1956 Bernstein cult musical CANDIDE.  Though his character, Maximillian, did have some singing in the show, it is sad that Louis does not sing on the original cast album.  Well, now comes word that Louis' 1960s off-Broadway show, Ernest in Love, is being released on CD this month.  Here's  a link to the cover art at AMAZON:

As for BURNT OFFERINGS, yes that will be released in August.  Click here for the scoop, courtesy of Stuart Manning's site.

Thanks for the link, Darren.  And how great to read that you moderated the commentary!!  (But it was too modest of you not tell us about that in the post!)

MGM just bought the license to the two TV movies which they'll be releasing on DVD this year or next.

Hi, Darren.  Do you know why MGM bought the rights?  Does this mean some sort of special edition of each film (NOT! considering MGM's previous releases of Midnight Movies and such classics as MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE)?  Or does this mean we can soon expect to see BURNT OFFERINGS, HODS and NODS on DVD?  (I know you probably don't know for sure, but I thought I'd ask anyway.)

I think the Alexander Cort credit may have been from the lists compiled by fans over the years; I don't believe the actor received a credit in the end titles.  . . .some fans who were involved in the NYC theatre scene or hung out at the studio way back when may have received this information from the actors themselves who did this work.

Please don't ask me to  be explain my source, but I believe Mr. Cort has been a member of Actors' Equity for many years--which means he's probably done a lot more stage work over the years than film or TV.  (And for what it's worth, he's definitely a "cutie" in his DS appearance.

Bravo, DrJulia!!  My thoughts exactly!  Now come on the rest of you--give Darren and DCP some online support.  Let's show the bean-counters that we're a force with which to be reckoned!!!

You could take the printed copy of SHADOWS OF THE NIGHT and have a pianist play the piano part and have the violin play the vocal melody, and probably get a very nice rendition.  If you have a good pianist, give him/her the sheet music and a copy of the recording and ask them to ad  lib their accompaniment to recreate that of the recording.  If you need some help with this, email me and I'll give you some musical tips.

Current Talk '03 I / Re:DS DVDs--Picture Quality
« on: February 28, 2003, 06:11:05 AM »
I'm of the opinion that the lighting on the first several months of color shows didn't do the show justice.  It was too bright, and not subtle at all, whereas the B&W shows where wonderfully atmospheric due to the use of lighting.  As time went on, and especially as we entered the returned from 1795, lighting and color were much improved and provided more atmosphere.  The best use of light and color, in my opinion, was during the 1897 and 1840 stories--my VHS tapes form MPI look pretty good, and I can't wait to see those same episodes on DVD.

Thanks for the update, Darren.  I've sworn off viewing my VHS copies of both HODS and NODS so that I can be truly surprised at the beautiful picture and sound of the DVD releases WHEN (not if) they are released.  Keep up the good work.
