Oh, you are so right, Miss Winthrop! There are so many sexy scenes in the old B/W movies---and I mean HOT----that tease the imagination and make these scenes much more memorable. In DS, the same is true. The scenes you mentioned are more meaningful than a trail of clothing leading to an explicit scene which requires no thought process!!

A new Dark Shadows series, taking the original characters in different directions and in different circumstances would indeed be exciting. However, I can't imagine the show without its backbone------the unforgettable chatacters that made it so successful. After all, isn't that what made it the show we all know and love?  [ghost_smiley] I agree that retelling the story would be redundant. I would love to see new storylines. [ghost_grin]

Current Talk '08 II / Re: Who was the HOTTEST female on the original DS?
« on: August 26, 2008, 12:42:25 AM »
I'm not sure I am qualified to select the "hottest" female on Dark Shadows, but I'd like to throw in my two cents concerning the most beautiful and/or the most talented (IMHO).
Joan Bennett and Marie Wallace would be my choices as most beautiful----in that order. Most all DS ladies were lovely and it's difficult to pinpoint only one.
In the talent department, I always thought Nancy Barrett was most believeable. I've been watching Dark Shadows: the Beginning and Nancy has impressed me in those early episodes as well as later storylines----especially the Pansy role. Of course, Bennett is fabulous, but she certainly has a leg up on the rest of the cast! [ghost_rolleyes]

Very sad episode indeed. Barnabas's death scene was exceprionally well-acted. It had to be very confusing for Josette after having read (or been read to by Natalie) the Collins family history book. Some facts were true, but some were not. When she heard Joshua announce that he would  tell all that Barn went to England, which agrees with the book, she was absolutely astounded. Knowing that Barnabas is dead, I wonder how she will rationalize the account of his life in the book.  [hall2_huh]

If Vickie had told folks that she transcended time in 2007, or even 1971, I imagine she may have been taken relatively seriously---given the UFO stories circulating. However, in 1795, I can't imagine folks believing or understanding the concept. Witches, I can understand because of the superstitious nature of many people. Another dumb choice. OH Vickie. Vickie, Vickie, -----------catch a clue!

I think the scene between Barnabas and Angelique, in which he accuses her of being a witch and she confesses that she was responsible for all the recent happenings, was one of the best of the series. It set the tone for almost all events and issues to come. There was no doubt that Angelique was not about to let Barnabas go when she issued her ultimatum--------Josette will suffer if Barnabas leaves her. Angelique also didn't seem too concerned that Sarah suffered one of her "spells". This woman has no conscience, which is one characteristic of "evil". LP plays the part beautifully.

The pain in Barnabas's voice and the look of agony on his face when he realized that his wife was a witch, was devastating. He lost Josette and now Angelique has betrayed his faith in her. So sad.

I had forgotten that the painting of Josette was a wedding gift from Andre DuPrez-----strange that it arrived so late.

For the benefit of those that may not have really understood Abigail's character (like me), we learned that she was not a rich Collins. (I can't understnd that).

So convenient that there is a cell in the basement of the "new" house. Was this common in 1795? At first I wasn't sure that it WAS a cell, but the place has all the characteristics of one!! If homes had such "cells", what was the purpose?

Barnabas's use of reverse psychology to learn the witch's name from Ben was great. Good scene. [8_1_202]

Angelique was quite good at building a house of cards----with no mistakes! I have a few questions here. I don't know, maybe I'm thinking too logically, but it seems to me that Barnabas would be more curious about Trask. Why leave him alone?
When Barnabas heard Angelique's voice, why not open the door and check it out? Yes, Vicki screamed, but there was time.
When the "fire" appeared in Vicki's room and she couldn't smother it (even the ever-present afghan didn't work), she heard Trask shouting and knew he was looking for her. Surely there was another exit from the house-----having lived there she would know of it.
The fire was only burning in her room.

Well, the plot must go on I suppose.  [hall2_rolleyes]       Misty

CB is excellent as the terrified Abigail as well as the stubborn Abigail. She's not intimidated in the least by Joshua, who would like to blow this whole witch thing off. Her costuming is less elegant than the other female family members; by choice of course.

A bittersweet meeting between Barnabas and Joshua takes place here. Joshua obviously has not completely ousted Barnabas from his life. Barnabas is happy (and surprised) to see him. Yet he refused to allow Sarah visit her brother even though Barnabas agreed to allow Trask do his thing. This was a well-acted episode I thought.

Not much to say here, except of course the great cat switcheroo. That was indeed clever. The cat gets around. Then Vicki sheds further suspicion on herself when she tells Abigail that she likes cats. Hmmmmm I guess she didn't do her homework-------witches? cats?-----they go together.
Reverend Trask cometh.  Fasten your seat belt!

One has to feel so very bad for Barnabas, who really has no reason to suspect that Josette has run off ---------least of all with Jeremiah. Once again, a great scene between Ben and Angelique. LP and TD work so well together. I think sometimes Ben gets the best of Angelique.

Finally catching up. I enjoy the exchanges between Ben and Angelique-------the reluctant Ben vs. the evil and determined Angelique. Natalie is so casual while waiting for Josette; this is her niece, she certainly should be more excired in anticipation of her wedding. With all the talk of a witch at Collinwood, no one seemed to find it unusual that Angelique (a servant) became so upset when Josette refused the amulet!!! Natalie, no doubt was too focused on Vickie.
