Harry?
« on: October 01, 2002, 04:52:48 AM »
Will Craig be back another time? Was this it? I was amazed when this new guy (Edward Marshall, is that right?) opened his mouth and actually SOUNDED like Harry! He had the intonations down pat, he must have been watching the show.

I know our Craig won't agree with me, but I think if I hadn't been looking at the set, I might not have realized it wasn't Craig Slocum. I give him an A for effort for trying to blend in....

(But, then I ALWAYS feel sorry for the poor loser who gets to try to be another actor instead of just taking on a role. Oh, ALMOST always, I couldn't feel sorry for Anthony George because he was so irritating to me. But then, he irritated me when he was the only Burke Devlin I'd ever watched.)

Kuanyin, as far as I know, Craig Slocum doesn't return to the role again.  As a matter of fact, I believe that they do away with the whole character now after yesterday's episode.

I don't know why Edward Marshall was cast as Harry for just this one episode. And since nothing was ever said about it Im assuming that perhaps Craig Slocum might  not have been feeling so well on account of his Diabetes.

Although this actor tried very hard to sound just like Harry Johnson did, IMHO his overall appearance just didn't seem to match the part.  Craig Slocum just seemed so natural for the part and I also liked the fact that he bore a somewhat resemblence to Mrs. Johnson. :-)

According to KLS in the original edition of My Scrapbook Memories, Eddie Marshall was a friend of hers who was phoned to come and sub for Craig when he did not show up for afternoon rehearsal one day.  (They rehearsed the next day's show in a read-through that happened late in the afternoon, after taping that day's episode.)

I don't believe she actually mentioned Craig's name, and I'm recalling that she remembered the incident as if Eddie was the actor who played Harry on the show.  Her memory often seems to play tricks on her--it was after all 35 years ago.

I wish that there had been some dialogue about Harry taking off for parts elsewhere, but I think he just drops out of sight.  They had an annoying habit of doing that with recurring characters on DS.

I agree, Cassandra. The other one did nothing for me because he just WAS NOT Craig. I wanted to see him not someone else.

"Craig_Slocum", you are obviously the actor's biggest fan. Do you have any idea of why he left Dark Shadows?

I think Harry probably quietly left Collinwood to become a porn star in New York.

After all, with a name like Harry Johnson...

What I know about Craig's life, is all personal. Most of the info I have, was given by someone who lived with him. I cannot share it. Not even privately.

?!? Spoiler

[backcolor=red]I may be mistaken, but I remember some years into the story, someone discovers Harry Johnson's body (or skeleton) behind one of the infamous walls in Collinwood.  Does anyone else remember this?  Not Trask, not Barnabus, but Harry was either murdered and stuffed in the wall or was walled up alive.  ???????[/backcolor]

Afan
Where are they getting these bodies, Mulder,  are they making them?

Nope, we've pretty much seen and heard the last of Harry. The only time anyone was bricked up was in 1897 and 1795, and the remains of those events were seen in 1968 and I think 1840 (I've only heard about this so I don't know if it's true). The people bricked up did not have Harry Johnson among them.

Maybe you're thinking of Dameon Edwards in 1970 PT, who...

Hey Gang,

All this talk about Edward Marshall sounding like Craig Slocum has me confused, because I recall EM sounding like Fred Schneider of The B-52's.  I also recall him making 'bopping' sorts of entrances and snapping his fingers as he walked.

Clearly, I am delusional, so humor me, please...<lol>

Regards,

John

John, I'm delusional too, cuz I think Eddie Marshall looks, sounds and acts NOTHING like Craig Slocum!

I don't remember the finger snapping, though.  Eddie was only in the one episode as Harry, wasn't he?  And then the little cameo as Braithwaite back in 1897.

I think that Harry Johnson and Buzz Hackett hit the road on the Buzzman's motorcycle to catch the concert at Woodstock, NY (specifically to see Sha-Na-Na perform "At the Hop"!).

Unfortunately, the concert didn't start until the summer of 1969.  So the early day Cheech & Chong of Collinsport, ME, just chilled out at Yasgur's farm until the crowd started to show up for the concert.  (You catch the two of them shouting the "Fish" cheer with the rest of the young and enthusiastic concert-goers in the Woodstock film, but you have to look fast for them!)
