Current Talk '02 II / Re: Elliott Stokes?

Unless I'm mistaken (which I may well be) the character was introduced post 1795 as "T. Eliot Stokes." I have heard Julia refer to him as and call him Eliot but I have not heard anyone mention the name "Timothy."

His counterpart in parallel time, when we get there, is called Timothy Stokes, father of Alexis and Angelique. That is the only time I recall anyone using the name Timothy.

The first time we see the regular-time character (when he comes to Collinwood to make an offer on Angelique's painting), Vicki introduces him to Barnabas and then again to Roger as Professor Timothy Stokes.  And he tells Angelique his name is Timothy Stokes when he tries to stop the dream curse, but that may have been the last time.

Well, Laura is in nearly the same boat: she's Laura Murdoch Stockbridge Collins Radcliffe Collins Collins, or something to that effect.

And we can't forget Angelique Bouchard Collins [who became Cassandra] Blair Collins [back to Angelique] Collins DuVal DuBois Rumson [then, going back in time, Valerie] Collins [and, finally, Miranda] DuVal!

Whew!!!

Gerard looked creepier, but I think that Quentin was more menacing.

I agree!

Which ghost killed more often during their reigns of terror-- Gerard or Quentin?

If anything, it's worse today. Back in the 60's we didn't see all these advertisements on TV for all these pills like we do now. Seemingly everyone who's feeling a little blue should be on medication. "Depression is a serious medical condition." I'm sure it can be - but at the same time, the pharmaceutical companies aren't getting rich off a small minority of clinically depressed patients; they're marketing their pills to just about anyone who's feeling a little down, making them think they should go to their doctor and get a prescription, which the doctor is only too happy to dole out for that kickback from the drug company. It's disgusting. It also disgusts me how many school children are being medicated rather than disciplined.

On the topic of anti-depressants, I have mixed feelings about the decision of drug companies to advertise their product, but in their defense I'll admit I have several friends that have benefitted tremendously from these drugs; loved ones are ALIVE because of them.  What I find disgusting is the amount of clinical depression that goes undiagnosed and/or untreated, but the ads have at least aided in bringing this serious problem into the open where it can be discussed.

And what I've seen of the medications that treat ADD, ADHD and other illnesses affecting our children has made me think that in many cases they're a godsend.  Resorting to medication in these instances is never an easy process for caring parents, and I agree with you completely that meds aren't appropriate in all cases of hyperactivity, but I disagree with another of your statements because just as depression is not caused by a lack of self-discipline, behavioral disorders in children are not caused by a lack of parental discipline.

Debate is expected on a discussion forum, and giving the reasons for disagreeing with another opinion is encouraged, but as stated in the guidelines, attacking other posters for their opinions is NOT allowed.  I'm removing the instances of calling someone else rude (hello?), and I'll warn that if any posters want to continue to attack other posters in this topic because they don't like their opinions, they may find themselves temporarily unable to do more on the forum than just read the messages.  Thanks.

1. Posts should always be made in a polite and respectful manner (though good natured ribbing, if not taken too far, is acceptable), commonly referred to as Netiquette. Netiquette is considered that set of actions and behaviors which allow the enjoyment and utility of boards such as this by all participants. It is related to "real life" etiquette in that it is a set of guidelines and not actual laws. Abiding by Netiquette will help ensure that your experience here is a pleasant one.

3. Debate should be kept on a non-personal basis. Flaming and name-calling will not be allowed. It is never appropriate to attack, criticize, or condemn another poster. Retaliation, sharp reproof and cynicism are to be avoided. Disagreement is a natural occurrence, but as stated above, should be done in a respectful manner. Likewise, these disagreements should not be continued beyond the normal limits of interesting discourse. Argument for argument's sake is not welcome.

SOAP VET TO PORT CHARLES

While this news is unconfirmed by the show, sources tell TV Guide Online that soap veteran Rebecca Staab has joined the cast of Port Charles. Staab, who made her daytime debut as Cecelia Thompson on Loving and appeared on Guiding Light, has starred in several films, including Love Potion No. 9 and Stray Bullet. Internet buzz says that Staab will play a maternal figure.

Staab appeared as Daphne Collins in episodes 1 & 2 of the '91 series, giving smoochies and love bites (!) to Michael T. Weiss (but I'm not bitter ;)).

LOL! Wondered how the desk fit in?  Does it get that crowded that Diabolis actually has to sit at the front desk to interview future residents?

I always expected Hell to look alot more scarier than that, but I suppose back then watching as a kid, it probably did, although I don't remember it.

I interpreted that place as Diabolos' office down in Hell (and yes, I realize how stupid that sounds).  And we thought being called to the office of the nun in charge was scary!!!  Anyway, I don't remember how I reacted to those scenes the first time around, but since I still wondered if there really was a hell in those days (can you say "brainwashed"?), I'd imagine the screams in the background were unsettling to me back then.

Im also gonna miss HAA's character portrayel of Nickolas Blair,  he added so much to the show and was an interesting character. It's too bad they never bought him back for another storyline. I guess Diabolis really had it with him this time.

Nicky does return to treat us to some marvelous stuff opposite Angelique, though not for quite a while.  You've seen Leviathans, right?

Bob,

You said on one of my posts that Tom Jennings used the gesture (I noticed that indeed he did) towards Barnabas during that final fight scene before he saw the light...;)

It was AllenCollins that pointed, er, mentioned it, which I had never noticed before either.  And yes, VAM, it was in response to a topic that you started.

Hi Annie,

Because the boards have been so busy, MB made some changes to the forums.  The most obvious change is that the smileys don't automatically display over the messages anymore, and the YaBB code boxes too.  All this is explained in the 2nd paragraph of MB's topic called "Bandwidth Saving Measures" that's stuck to the top of "Current Talk".

To summarize it for you, the smileys can be made to display again (MB gives the instructions) but instead of that we encourage you to access them when you need them by clicking on Help, then Posting, then Emoticons.  Hopefully you'll come to memorize them and won't need to keep going to the Help section for the smileys you use often.

We're sorry to have to make these changes, but better this than risk that our server temporarily shut us down again or that we take other measures that would hit our visitors much harder.

Um, you did.  Really.  :)

Do your kids watch The Fairly Odd Parents on Nick?  The little boy calls his babysitter "Icky Vicky", and one episode has a whole song number with that title...

Hey Vicky, you're so so icky,
just the thought of being around you makes me oh so sicky.
Hey Vicky, won't you please explain
why you get so much enjoyment out of causing kids pain...

Hmmm.  :D
