Jonathan Frid finally got a day off today, and we were left on our own with the 1897 crowd.
We got our first look at the four siblings together. Very, very enjoyable. I would like to have heard some ancient grievances being aired ("You always got the extra eclair!"), but never mind, it was fun anyway.
John Karlen was having the time of his life playing Carl. The way he holds himself is quite different from Willie, and I loved it when he shouted, "Edward!" upon coming back from the Old House with Sandor - so pleased with himself for having proof that he couldn't get hold of Barnabas.
During this viewing of 1897, as during my last viewing, I keep thinking about the one constant in all of it: the house. Here are all these people thinking they're so important - but they come and they go, and it's the house that stays the same. Most old houses, though, aren't like that in real life. They're built, and then added onto here and there. I grew up in an 18th century farmhouse, but the kitchen dated only back to around 1912.
