Title: OT: Dark Shadows as Xanax
Post by: rainingwolf on December 31, 2008, 02:21:50 PM
I have been watching DS for 7 hours straight now to calm my anxiety. My husband was admitted to the hospital today with a mystery infection that has swelled his arm to twice its size. In the process it has also increased his problems with congestive heart failure and they are draining fluid from around his heart on an hourly basis. It has also caused complications with both his diabetes and his epilepsy. I am home because getting a wheelchair, my ventilator and assorted supplies is too complicated to get going, and having been sick myself with pneumonia going to a hospital germ factory would not be a good thing to do. So, it is 5 AM, I have not yet been able to get to sleep and I have watched disc after disc of DS to try and settle my nerves and lessen the worry. It sorta works..sometimes I go 5 or 6 minutes without worrying!  But at least I have been able to use DS instead of taking a Xanax, so perhaps that would be a good selling point to get DS back on the air! Can you see it--"Take one hour of Dark Shadows to calm your frayed (or fried) nerves!"  OK, back to the program--Vicki has just disappeared into the past with Jeff/Peter, and Madam Somebody has confronted Quentin and paid for it...and if you happen to believe in such things, could y'all say a prayer or send some white light to my Beloved? I would appreciate it.   [pray]

Dear Raining Wolf,

here's to healing vibes for your husband and yourself!  I hope he can come home soon.

And  yeah--whenever I'm in a funk, for whatever reason, DS always helps me feel better--or at least stare melodramatically into the middle distance while I imagine Julia shaking me by the shoulders and saying, "You MUST!"

Best wishes,

G.

I hope there's someone keeping you informed, and I'm glad DS helps.   It would be too tense a program for me.   We're all too vulnerable.   I hope for the best obviously, and I'll keep checking in here.

Rainingwolf....Happy New Year Honey!

What's the good word?

Please know your husband is in our prayers.

Just a note to say thank you for the prayers and good wishes for my husband. He is home from the hospital today, safe and sound. We are incredibly lucky-this is the same stuff Jim Henson (of muppet fame) died from.
Cellulitis/toxic shock is nasty stuff. To make this on topic, I can say that I went through 4 volumes of DS while trying to distract from worry--it really IS better than xanax!   [santa_smiley]

I am so glad to hear the good news.  I do take Xanax but not for a anxiety but a damaged nerve in my face which burns.  Thankfully it stops the pain, but not always.   But when the meds don't help I do see how DS, or any show you love can occupy your mind! :)

That's great news, rainingwolf!  It's so nice when there's an exact diagnosis so you know what happened.
