I'm not a fan of Bonham Carter personally, and frankly I'd rather not see her in DS (and to be perfectly frank, Tim Burton wouldn't have been my first choice to direct, either), but I've come to expect seeing her in Burton's films. Sticking his current girlfriend in his movies, be she HBC or Lisa Marie, is one of Burton's trademarks, and it would actually feel a little strange if there wasn't some nepotism involved.

Hulu.com already has the first two seasons of Buffy up.

And watching online is a very cool thing, especially with Netflix's nifty video viewer. Until they inexplicably took them down, I found an occasional episode of The Dick Van Dyke Show delivered through their video player quite refreshing; I'm also relying on ABC's video viewer for my Lost and Desperate Housewives fixes this season, due to my new lack of cable. Anyway, I'd love to see more shows done this way, particularly for a network like TV Land, which could largely rectify its replacement or shortening of classics like I Love Lucy for mediocre movies.

And as for DS being available in its entirety, not yet... but there is someone on YouTube working on condensing the Beginning arc and releasing them in 10-minute minisodes.  [8_1_209]  Here's hoping that the whole series eventually makes it onto some form of online viewing! The only real caveat of online viewing is how poorly it works for those with dial-up access, though, so maybe once broadband penetration rates get higher... well, who knows. We'll just have to hope for the best!  [hall2_grin]

Thanks for clearing that up, MB.

Yes, I forgot about about Sleepy Hollow; that raises the total to three. And not all the Burton/Depp productions were rated PG-13 or R - Corpse Bride and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory were both PG. However, I highly doubt that a new DS movie could be made as PG.

Bon voyage, or, as they say in French World, Buena Vista Home Entertainment!

Burton's only done two R-rated films, correct? I personally think that those two were some of his best (I've seen all of Burton's films, save Planet of the Apes and the two Batman films, and, in my opinion, Ed Wood is the best, followed by Edward Scissorhands, then Sweeney Todd), but the R-rating was absolutely necessary for Sweeney Todd, and the strong profanity in Ed Wood helped develop Landau's portrayal of Lugosi, so it was probably necessary there, too. However, IMHO, a new Dark Shadows could easily be done with a PG-13 rating.

Anyone think that maybe the reason we haven't heard too much from Warner Bros. is that they're a little nervous? Sex and the City did fairly well at the box office, but The X-Files: I Want to Believe did pretty poorly, and I've heard rumors that a Friends movie was in planning, but got squished. Maybe they're worried that if a recent hit like The X-Files does so poorly at the box office, a film based on a show that debuted in 1966 (and is now basically a cult show) would do even worse.

I'm pretty sure that one of the writers (Sam Hall, I think, or maybe Gordon Russell) confirmed it at a Fest, so I'm voting yes.  [ghost_tongue2]

In all honesty, I like Johnny Depp as an actor, but there are actors who I think could do just as well in the role. Learning that he's not going to be our Barnabas wouldn't trigger a significant reaction from me.

Heh, I really had no incentive to buy any more expansion packs for The Sims 2 until I found this; fortunately, they're ones that were released before the publisher started releasing their games with very intrusive copy protection that behaves like a virus (and they've also infected all of the "Deluxe" and "Double Deluxe" versions of the base game - so getting a new copy of the base game without it is impossible). Dang, this house looks awesome. I normally don't like big houses in my Sims games, but I'll definitely make an exception for this, especially since it comes fully furnished - unlike that supposedly complete Halliwell Manor I downloaded a while back. Can't wait to get my hands on this one come December, even if my search for Sim versions of the DS characters has been essentially futile.

The Sims 2 is a fun little game from Electronic Arts that lets you control the lives of lots of little computer people. While looking through a few TS2-websites for Dark Shadows stuff, I stumbled upon this. Nifty, eh? I'd love to download it into my game; unfortunately, it requires a couple of expansion packs I don't have (Glamor Life Stuff and Seasons). They've just made my Christmas list, however.  [ghost_tongue2]

I still have no idea what's going on. Grr, arrgh.

In the words of Victoria (argh) Winters, "I don't understand. You won't like me when I don't understand. NOW WALK THE PLANK, SCALLYWAG!"

Ah, okay. Sounds like it was pretty funny.

I have a strange hierarchy of my favorite shows. Buffy and Buffy alone is Tier 1, for reasons I've given elsewhere. Angel, Northern Exposure, DS, and a couple others fall into Tier 2. To be honest, even I'm not totally sure how my mind works in that area.  [ghost_tongue2]

First, what was the shout out? Second... Ben?

...this is the way people talk.  How you could have a story set where and when this story is set, among these characters and not have profanity is something I don't see how it could work.  Keep in mind, not all the characters do curse very much, if at all.  But some do, and that accurately reflects life.

Likewise, the story is about--among other things--sex.  That is a perfectly valid thing for stories to be about.

Oh, I know that. I was merely making an observation that there's considerably more profanity in TrueBlood than in the books, as well as that the sex in TB seemed more explicit for a TV show than the sex in the novels was for books. And when I complained about the hick accents that some of the actors were putting on, it was primarily because, at one section in the first novel, Harris mentions that a character (who, despite being a somewhat minor character, will likely be the hardest to cast; I refuse to spoil the hilarious reason why) speaks "with a thick Southern accent" - which, at least to me, implies that the other characters' accents are light to moderate.

There are a lot of differences, though.  Bill is far more diplomatic than Barnabas, and seems more comfortable with his vampire status.  He isn't nearly as aristocratic, nor seemingly as vain.  Not a ring or over-elaborate cane in sight!  If anything his wardrobe is very ordinary.  Plus he doesn't seem as obsessed with the past, the way Barnabas was forever dwelling on what had been (often at the expense of what was or could be).

Yes, those large differences in their personalities are why I don't really consider Barnabas and Bill to be similar people. There are some big parallels in their situations, and a few small ones in their appearances and personalities, but I don't see them as being similar people.

Anyway, I am looking forward to seeing who they cast in that role that I mentioned earlier; like I said, they either need to cast it flawlessly or skip the character altogether, and the latter would be terribly unfortunate.

Cool find. My feelings on the song are essentially the same as Taeylor's.
