Current Talk '08 II / Re: Songs that remind you of DS
« on: November 26, 2008, 07:12:44 AM »
Several songs from the Killers' album Hot Fuss, are reminiscent of the relationship between Barnabas and Josette:

"Jenny Was a Friend of Mine" and "Midnight Show"
Maggie's kidnapping and Josette's death on Widow's Hill
"Mr. Brightside"
Barnabas reflecting on Jeremiah and Josette placed under the love curse
"Everything Will Be Alright"
Barnabas accepting that Josette is gone after she appears to him in the Leviathan arc
What I meant to say was that Stokes would consider them both carefully, because he doesn't seem to me like the kind to place all his bets on one party. Of course, that's a rather generic answer. There's no way to know, but I think that Stokes is the kind of person who, in the instance of this election, wouldn't see enough difference between the two to have a preference and vote, which still qualifies him for Middle of the Line.

Based on what I've seen from comparing various election results, the New England states are primarily Democrat-voting states.

I voted Middle of the Line, as I think Roger would probably not vote in this election at all. He strikes me as being a Democrat who's too liberal to vote for McCain but not liberal enough to vote for Obama.

I voted Middle of the Road, because Stokes seems like an intelligent man who would consider both candidates thoroughly before voting, if he indeed voted at all.

I voted for both "Moderately Conservative" and "Other" - Moderately Conservative for the somewhat intelligent Vicki of her first few storylines, and Other for the idiotic Vicki of the last few, who wouldn't understand a thing about politics.

I don't really think that Willie cares that much about politics, so I voted Other.

Oh, well. I was curious about that, especially considering the dozen or so episodes that declared that "The role of Burke Devlin will now be played by Anthony George."

Current Talk '08 II / Re: So... why'd they kick James Hall?

I agree that Hall's not even half the actor John Karlen is; I just wondered about it, because I did think that Hall was at least competent.

Oh, I highly doubt that anything remotely resembling a gay subtext (for those two, anyway) was intentional. It just seemed like, through various bits of dialogue and their actions toward each other, their relationship could have been read that way. And I only saw it with Hall's Willie - once Karlen took over, I didn't get that at all.

Thanks, Midnite. I guess I overlooked those on the search. [hall2_sad]

Anyway, the alcohol problem explanation makes sense, seeing as how that was the reason for Mitchell Ryan's replacement with Anthony George.

Is there some kind of gay subtext there or is it just my imagination? I mean, really, especially when they were talking about how they had been buddies for a long time and *cough* knew each other well. And I almost thought that Jason was going to say to Elizabeth, "Willie is to me as your husband was to you."  [hall2_cheesy]

Okay, I got my Collection 6 a few days ago and have all but the last disc to watch, which will complete my DS viewing and bring me full circle with the show. Anyway, I searched on the boards for this to make sure it hadn't been posted already, and I couldn't find anything, so, why exactly did they recast Willie? Oh, I'm not saying that James Hall was better than, or even as good as, John Karlen, but what exactly was the problem with him? Sorry if this has been posted already.  [hall2_tongue]
