I'm sorry to hear that.  For the past few days, I've been watching the early episodes when he first assumed the role of Burke and was just wondering about him.  And now he's gone.   :'(

Very sad, indeed.  He took on a difficult assignment, becoming the "new" Burke Devlin.  His style was completely different from Mitch Ryan's.  Ryan's portrayal was more gruff and aggressive; George's more subdued.  Some didn't like the transition, especially in the beginning, but most undoubtedly got use to it.  However, because of George's more tranquil approach, I think he was a better choice to play Jeremiah, making the character far more sympathetic and thus the circumstances around what happened to Jeremiah more tragic.  I couldn't picture Jeremiah and Barnabas being brother-like relatives, with deep affection for each other, if Ryan had played the part.  It would seem that their relationship would had to have been more antagonistic.

that is sad news.there are fewer and fewer of the original actors around today. :'(
i too was resistant to a "new" burke devlin when mitch ryan first left the show.i thought he was so identifiable with the role.mr.george put his own spin on it that grew on me.i've often wondered how,or if,mitch would have played jeremiah.if it wasn't for the change in actor perhaps that whole part of the story might have been told differently.and if neither actor had left i wonder what would have become of the character after 1795?the show's plotting changed so greatly during this time i can't picture burke involved in any of the storylines.

How sad!  I was so hoping he could attend a Fest and meet some of his many fans.   :'(

My goodness, I did a double take when I saw his friend's name.  But DS' Frank Schofield wasn't a local actor.

Unexpected and very sad news, I had no idea Anthony George was at such an advanced age, he appeared to be much younger.

Not many cared for his portrayal of the "new" Burke although as Jeremiah he was superb.

I can only hope that his life was filled with everything that made him happy... for he has surely left his memory on so many people.

From Stuart site Dark Shadows Journal Online:
http://www.collinwood.net

* Anthony George: 1921-2005

We were sad to learn of the death of actor ANTHONY GEORGE, who played Burke
Devlin on Dark Shadows. The Binghamton Press &

Sun Bulletin reports that Anthony died on March 16 of a lung condition in
a California hospital. He was 84 years old.

Anthony joined the cast of Dark Shadows in 1967, taking over the role of
Burke Devlin from Mitchell Ryan. He remained on the

show for the next six months, also playing Jeremiah Collins during the 1795
sequence.  Visit the site to read obituary

How sad :'(

Also, I think he'd be well past 83 by now. And if I'm not mistaken, he died some time ago...

Sad.

While I liked Mitch Ryan as Burke, Anthony George worked for me as Burke as well (admittedly a less rough around the edges version of Burke), and I liked his performance as Jeremiah.

Your collage is a beautiful tribute to Anthony George.  He will be missed.  I really thought he was a fine actor and asset to the show.  He really did shine as Jeremiah Collins.

For some reason, when I try to access the obituary, I get an error message.  Would it be possible for someone to post the text on the board?

I wrote too soon.  I was able to access the story.

For anyone else having trouble, you need to click the link for "News" that's on the error page, scroll down, and click the link for Saturday's news.  Scroll down that page, and you'll find the link for the article.  For whatever reason, I guess the website does not allow linking directly to articles.
