Title: Jonny Lee Miller's Elementary
Post by: Mysterious Benefactor on January 03, 2013, 08:03:31 PM
A new year - a new topic.

And apparently, despite many other shows still being in reruns, there's a new ep tonight, which is why I'm starting this topic.  [santa_wink]

The Fast Overnights are in:

"Some primetime shows are already back from reruns and the ratings definitely reflect the new programming, handing CBS a huge win. "The Big Bang Theory" posted its highest ratings ever with nearly 19 million viewers and a 6.0 rating in the 18-49 demo, which matches an all-time high. "Two and a Half Men" posted a season high, while "Person of Interest" had a series high and "Elementary" had its largest audience since the premiere."

10 p.m:
CBS: "Elementary" (11.4 million, 7.1/12)
ABC: "Scandal" rerun (3.7 million, 2.6/4)
NBC: "Rock Center with Brian Williams" rerun (3.4 million, 2.4/4)

18-49 leader: "Elementary" (2.5)

I haven't had the time to go back to get the shirtless screen caps from the pilot. But I haven't forgotten...

I fell asleep during last night's episode's DVR airing and then had the nerve not to dream about JLM. Nice to see that as the holiday dust settles ELEMENTARY is still on top and doing better than ever. Good for us & good for JLM. I discovered recently that this is not JLM's first stab at stateside television. I am also wondering how long, if ever, we will have to wait to start seeing DS 2012 costars making guest appearances on ELEMENTARY.

I've been a JLM fan ever since he starred in ABC's Eli Stone from 2008 to 2009. He was often shirtless in that show as well. And I have the DVDs of all 26 eps, so...

Even though Scandal reclaimed the 18-49 demo, Elementary is still doing quite well. Last night's Fast Overnights::

10 p.m:
CBS: "Elementary" (11.3 million, 7.2/12)
ABC: "Scandal" (8.4 million, 5.6/9)
NBC: "Rock Center with Brian Williams" (3.8 million, 2.6/4)

18-49 leader: "Scandal" ( 2.8 )

It's pretty much safe to say that Elementary is a hit. And if the CBS promos can be believed, it's actually the biggest hit among the new shows this season.  [snow_happy]  And honestly I thought last night's ep was one of the best ones yet.  [thumb]

I must agree, MB, last night's episode was excellent. I am gaga over JLM's interpretation of this character. I hang on every frame. This might be my favorite show currently on TV. I think I am getting old though as I found myself FF'ing through what I thought was going to be a cruel murder, (then ended up rerunning it when I saw, through winced eyelids, lol, that the victim was spared -- and in an all-so-fabulous manner).

JLM is awesome as Sherlock & I loved his Roger Collins too.

Just now seeing this thread.  Those two photos of Jonny are awesome.  It looks as if he's fully naked in the top one (which I guess is not from Elementary).

Nice that you cater to one's artistic interest in the beautiful proportions of the unclothed male form.  Yeah, that's the ticket.  Artistic.  I'm all about supporting the arts...

Even a rerun of Elementary isn't all that far behind a new ep of Scandal so far as viewership goes:

10 p.m:
ABC: "Scandal" (7.9 million, 5.4/9)
CBS: "Elementary" rerun (7.0 million, 4.6/8)

And BTW, Elementary is also a rerun next week.  [snow_sad]

And when they're both reruns, Elementary still beats Scandal significantly:

10 p.m:
CBS: "Elementary" rerun (7.75 million, 5.0/8)
ABC: "Scandal" rerun (5.7 million, 4.0/7)

A new ep of Elementary next week - and I love the new post-Super Bowl ep teaser:

Well, it doesn't look like Do No Harm is going to be much competition for Elementary. Here are the Fast Overnights:

10 p.m:
CBS: "Elementary" (10.8 million, 6.9/12)
ABC: "Scandal" (8.1 million, 5.6/9)
NBC: "Do No Harm" premiere (3.1 million, 2.1/4)

18-49 leader: "Scandal" (2.7)

Though I recorded DNH and enjoyed it when I watched it.

JLM was on LIVE! With Kelly & Michael the other morning (I think Thursday) but I missed it. I am hoping his segment is on YouTube.

Thanx for the link & stat's MB. As an avid fan of the show, I'm getting the impression that the SBSunday show might be a tad juiced up on the quirky side, but I am hoping that is not the case. I haven't gone to the link yet, maybe my answer will be in that article.

"The blackout pushed the post-Super Bowl broadcast of "Elementary" out of primetime. More detailed ratings will be available later in the day, but it scored a 12.0/24 in metered markets, its best showing ever."

And it might have done even better if it hadn't come on so late on the East Coast. But what it did do in the Fast Overnights is still great. And it will be very interesting to see what more we learn once the more detailed ratings become available...

Wow, I totally forgot about ELEMENTARY being on last night. I didn't watch TV yesterday. I hope I have it on the DVR being it was pushed up because of the blackout. (And I called myself an avid fan. <insert eyeroll here>)
Title: Re: Jonny Lee Miller's Elementary
Post by: Mysterious Benefactor on February 04, 2013, 10:33:06 PM
"After the game, "Elementary" scored 20.8 million viewers and a 7.8 rating among adults 18-49 for CBS. That's by far the biggest audience the show has had in its rookie season, but it's also the smallest audience for a post-Super Bowl show since "Alias" drew 17.3 million people after Super Bowl XXXVII a decade ago. (In comparison, "The Voice" scored 37.6 million viewers last year, and the debut of "Undercover Boss" brought in 38.7 million viewers the last time CBS had the Super Bowl in 2010.)

The common factor in the relatively low numbers for "Elementary" and "Alias" is that both started after 11 p.m. ET. The blackout pushed "Elementary's" start time back to 11:11 p.m., almost certainly robbing it of a few million viewers."

Unfortunate, but there's really no surprise that the numbers were down from other years. There's certainly going to be a difference between who might have stayed around to watch Elementary at 10:00p.m., when it was supposed to start, and who actually stayed around when it didn't start until 11:11p.m. and people had to go to work today. Though things could still be quite interesting once DVR viewing gets factored in...

Honestly, I am surprised anyone watches TV after watching the Super Bowl. I would think the TV gets shut off and the real partying and the armchair quarterbacking and commercial rating begins. Too many years living on the west coast I guess.

I've been informed that we did get all of ELEMENTARY on the DVR, so I'm a happy camper. It will be interesting how much the ratings increase with new fans, post SB. Thanks as usual for the stat's MB!

The Fast Overnights:

10 p.m:
CBS: "Elementary" (11 million, 7.1/12)
ABC: "Scandal" (8 million, 5.5/9)
NBC: "Do No Harm" (2.2 million, 1.5/2)

18-49 leader: "Scandal" ( 2.8 )

Seems like so far as viewership goes a pattern has definitely developed with Elementary on top, Scandal a very respectable second, and whatever NBC puts on as a distant third.

In the Fast Overnights everything was pretty much the same last night:

10 p.m:
CBS: "Elementary" (10.9 million, 6.8/12)
ABC: "Scandal" (8 million, 5.4/9)
NBC: "Law & Order: SVU" (3.45 million, 2.3/4)

18-49 leader: "Scandal" ( 2.8 )

Elementary up a bit, Scandal down a bit - but pretty much the same.

Reruns of Elementary continue to do well - even a rerun of the-post Super Bowl ep, which was the show's most watched ep this season when it first ran:

10 p.m:
CBS: "Elementary" (7.7 million, 5.0/9)
NBC: "Law & Order: SVU" rerun (3.8 million, 2.7/5)
ABC: "Jimmy Kimmel Live: After the Oscars" rerun (2.8 million, 2.0/3)

18-49 leader: "Elementary" (1.6)

And ABC would probably do well to keep Scandal at 10 because moving it to 9 to make way for the Jimmy Kimmel Live: After the Oscars special rerun didn't exactly do that special or Scandal any favors:

ABC: "Scandal" rerun (3.3 million, 2.4/4)

That's the worst a rerun of Scandal has done this season.

And BTW, Elementary is a repeat again next week - but there will be a new ep on the 14th.
Title: Re: Jonny Lee Miller's Elementary

The Fast Overnights:

10 p.m:
CBS: "Elementary" rerun (8.7 million, 5.7/10)
FOX: "Glee" (6.3 million, 4.1/7 from 10 to 10:30)
NBC: "Law & Order: SVU" rerun (3.9 million, 2.8/5)
ABC: "Scandal" rerun (3.7 million, 2.6/4)

18-49 leader: "Glee" (2.2)

Viewership-wise, that's Elementary's highest rated rerun yet. It smoked the competition!
Title: Re: Jonny Lee Miller's Elementary
Post by: Mysterious Benefactor on March 15, 2013, 08:13:38 PM
The Fast Overnights:

10 p.m:
CBS: "Elementary" (11.5 million, 7.2/12)
ABC: "Scandal" rerun (4.3 million, 3.0/5)
NBC: "Law & Order: SVU" rerun (3.7 million, 2.7/4)

18-49 leader: "Elementary" (2.4)

That's the best a new Elementary ep has done on a Thursday since its premiere numbers.

Preempted the next two weeks for basketball.

LOL  If the plot hadn't been so similar to the college reunion episode of Monk [spoiler]in which a man planned to murder his wife with impunity using her old handwritten suicide letter[/spoiler] (updated to a video by Elementary), I probably would've missed the connection too.  [snow_smiley]

I didn't see that Monk ep, so I didn't pick it up. But 9 times out of 10 it's the husband, anyway.  [snow_wink]  Though honestly, the best part of the ep had nothing to do with the case(s) - it was watching Joan do her own investigating.  [snow_smiley]

Repeats of Elementary continue to dominate in the Fast Overnights:

10 p.m:
CBS: "Elementary" rerun (7.3 million, 4.8/8)
NBC: "Hannibal" (4.3 million, 3.0/5)
ABC: "Scandal" rerun (3.6 million, 2.6/4)

18-49 leader: "Hannibal" (1.6)

And it's interesting that even though Hannibal stayed pretty much where it was last week, a repeat of Scandal fell below it. In fact, those might be Scandal's worst overnight numbers for a repeat this season.

And BTW, Elementary isn't on at all next week. And the next new ep is on the 25th.

Well, it seems as if a rerun of Elementary rules in the Fast Overnights even if it's not on its own night:

10 p.m:
CBS: "Elementary" rerun (6.3 million, 4.2/7)
NBC: "Chicago Fire" rerun (3.7 million, 2.6/4)
ABC: "Nashville" rerun (2.9 million, 2.1/3)

18-49 leader: "Elementary" (1.2)

And it can even claim the highest 18-49 demo in the time period.  [easter_wink]

Everything was lower than normal on the broadcast networks in the Fast Overnights, so 10 p.m. was no exception:

10 p.m:
CBS: "Elementary" (9.9 million, 6.4/11)
ABC: "Scandal" (7.8 million, 5.3/9)
NBC: "Hannibal" (2.4 million, 1.7/3)

18-49 leader: "Scandal" ( 2.8 )

Zap2it.com blamed the siphoning of viewers on the first round of the NFL draft and the NBA playoffs.

I didn't realize that Elementary is the only new show that CBS has renewed so far.

The Fast Overnights:

10 p.m:
CBS: "Elementary" (9.5 million, 6.1/10)
ABC: "Scandal" (8.1 million, 5.5/9)
NBC: "Hannibal" (2.5 million, 1.7/3)

18-49 leader: "Scandal" (2.6)

Another Thursday where several shows slipped some. In fact, Zap2it.com says that "American Idol" dropped to an all-time low among adults 18-49. "Scandal" also slipped in that demo. However, while "Person of Interest" and "Elementary" were off a little in viewers, they were steady in the 18-49 demographic.

The Fast Overnights:

10 p.m:
CBS: "Elementary" (9.15 million, 5.8/10)
ABC: "Scandal" (8.9 million, 6.2/10)
NBC: "Hannibal" (2.7 million, 1.8/3)

18-49 leader: "Scandal" (3.2)

It seems like more people have been DVRing Elementary lately because when the Live+7 DVR ratings have come in for the past few weeks, the show has been completely holding its own with around 12-13 million total viewers and a tight grip on 1st place in the time period.

Thanks for the info, Patti - I hadn't seen that yet. And even though it's currently listed for the beyond ridiculous price of $62.99, the price will no doubt come way down before the set is actually released because that's the way Amazon always operates.

'Elementary' Crosses the Pond to Film the Second Season Premiere Episode on Location in London (http://tvbythenumbers.zap2it.com/2013/05/09/elementary-crosses-the-pond-to-film-the-second-season-premiere-episode-on-location-in-london/181699/)

It's nice that this article confirms -

"ELEMENTARY, which airs on the CBS Television Network, is the season’s #1 new program, averaging 12.88 million viewers.  ELEMENTARY wins its Thursday (10:00-11:00 PM) time period in viewers, adults 18-49 (3.0/09) and adults 25-54 (4.1/10)."

- as well as -

"The series is also an international hit.  ELEMENTARY is the #1 show on Sky Living in the UK, a top five series on Global in Canada, the #1 drama on Network Ten in Australia, the #1 U.S. series in Spain, and a top five U.S. series in Germany and Italy."

- which is interesting to know.  [easter_smiley]

Fast Overnights:

9 p.m:
FOX: "American Idol" (14.9 million, 9.0/14)
CBS: "Elementary" season finale (9.1 million, 5.7/9)
ABC: "Grey's Anatomy" season finale (8.6 million, 5.8/9)
NBC: "The Office" series finale (5.4 million, 3.2/5)
The CW: "Beauty and the Beast" season finale (1.3 million, 0.8/1)

18-49 leader: "American Idol" (3.9)

10 p.m:
ABC: "Scandal" season finale (9.1 million, 6.2/10)
CBS: "Elementary" season finale (8.75 million, 5.5/9)
NBC: "The Office" series finale/"Hannibal" (3.5 million, 2.2/4)

18-49 leader: "Scandal" (3.2)

It will be interesting to see if Scandal actually remains on top once the Live+7 DVR numbers come out because Elementary tends to gain more viewers than Scandal does.

I haven't seen the final numbers for the season finale yet, but I did come across this very interesting article:

CBS Finishes Season Number 1 in All Key Ratings Categories (http://tvbythenumbers.zap2it.com/2013/05/21/cbs-finishes-season-number-1-in-all-key-ratings-categories/183591/)

To say Elementary has been a success for CBS this season would be an understatement, as the statistics presented in the article clearly show.

(Also notice that over the course of the season Elementary routinely gained an additional 3 million viewers each week once the Live+7 DVR numbers were factored in - which is why, as I said last week, it's quite possible that Elementary's finale ultimately came in ahead of Scandal.)

I had to miss the finale - I am happy the show is a success and that JLM has a hit on his hands. I caught Miller in a Richard Zanuck bio on TCM. DS (in production at the time) was prominently featured. Miller was bald, and seemed unlike any character I've ever seen him play.

The finale was amazing with loads of twists and turns - one in particular that was hugely surprising. But I won't say what it was because hopefully you'll be able to catch the finale when it's rerun.

I wish I'd known that was on TCM because I would have loved to have caught it. But perhaps it will be on again.

And yes, JLM was bald during the shooting of DS and appears that way in a lot of the promotional video shot while shooting. Here's a screen cap:

JLM had shaved his head for the theatre production of Frankenstein he'd been doing with Benedict Cumberbatch (in which they switched off playing the doctor or the monster on different nights), and I suppose he continued shaving his head during the shooting of DS because it probably made it easier to apply the blond Roger wig.

And speaking of screen caps, JLM had a few shirtless scenes in the Elementary finale, but I haven't had the chance to capture/post anything them from them yet. But as soon as I get the chance, I definitely will because I know there are certainly members here who would love to see them. [easter_cheesy]

Yes please  [easter_grin]  I know there are several of us who would enjoy this!  Much appreciated!  I didn't get a chance to watch the Zanuck thing- Miller is certainly a handsome devil even when he's bald   [easter_smiley]

I really enjoyed Elementary this season and can't wait to watch again next year.  I enjoyed the finale with Natalie Dormer-- if any here watch Game Of Thrones, she is also quite awesome in that as Margaery Tyrell.

I suspect that what dom means is that he loved the way JLM played Roger, not necessarily that he loved the character. Given his actions, including the one you point out, the character is pretty hard to love - but JLM plays him perfectly. If anything JLM's performance is what helps to make one dislike Roger all the more.  [ghost_wink]

This is interesting - I believe this is the first time a rerun of Elementary has beaten a new ep of Rookie Blue in the Fast Overnights:

10 p.m:
CBS: "Elementary" rerun (5.3 million, 3.6/6)
ABC: "Rookie Blue" (5.1 million, 3.5/6)
NBC: "America's Got Talent" rerun (3.4 million, 2.3/4)

Quite possibly a portion of the Hannibal audience that's still watching TV on Thursdays at 10 has switched to Elementary. But whatever the case, it will be interesting to see if the Elementary rerun still holds #1 in the time period once the Live+7 DVR ratings are factored in...
