Interestingly, BOM indicates that it was only playing in 45 theaters, not 135.
That's weird - not to mention disappointing. And what's also weird is that BOM had
Rock of Ages also listed in the expanding section but now it's also in the declining section.
The interesting thing about RoA, though, is that even though it's playing in a dozen more theaters than DS (57 vs. 45), DS has more showings (410 vs.320).
And the number in the Theater Counts has changed, though I didn't notice it having been changed.
The last time I checked BOM was today at around 1:45pm ET, and at the time DS was still listed as expanding to 135.
So, they mustn't have changed things until the actuals came in and they realized the theater count was off.
Hmm, I wonder, then, if this will be its last week...
Quite possibly. Though I have seen films hang around for several weeks even at around the current level of theaters that DS has. In fact,
The Three Stooges had recently been playing in only 53 theaters, then 39 the next week, then 32 the week after, and is currently in 27 in its 18th week in release. And
Mirror Mirror had recently been playing in only 59 theaters, then 56, then 39 - and this week it expanded to 45 in its 20th week in release. So, you never know.
But at any rate, thanks for posting the numbers, madscntst.
