That's right, our very own Penny Dreadful took home the Rondo award for Best Horror Host at this weekend's Sixth Annual Rondo Hatton Classic Horror Awards (http://classichorrorfilmboard.com/rondos/rondos.html) .
The Rondos, named after 1940s character actor Rondo Hatton, are a fan-based survey of the classic horror community sponsored by the Classic Horror Film Board website. The email-only vote was the biggest classic horror fan survey in online history.
The horror host category -- 13 hosts were listed and numerous others drew write-in votes -- was highly competitive, another factor in this year's vote total, which was double any previous year. Fans of all the hosts turned out in big numbers, underscoring the comeback of the horror host genre.
Penny Dreadful's win had a special poignancy, coming just a month after the death of Maila Nurmi at the age of 86. Dreadful...says her character "is definitely in the tradition of the dark mysterious lady you don't want to mess with — Vampira."
A nice group shot of some of this year's winners can be seen here (http://bp2.blogger.com/_EqD_yWiiS5U/SIarDNkeDQI/AAAAAAAABqw/k2qPGSg5aIY/s1600-h/DSCN0923.JPG).

Crucial things to consider... Penny having been elbowed into the background of the photo is out for revenge, in the form of trophy head-biting, yet she ignores the greatest prize in the area of head-biting, that of the photog at the bottom of the picture.
Congrats PD! I meant it about that drawing, I'm just getting held up a few decades!

Our very own Penny Dreadful has much to be proud of!
Her TV show, Penny Dreadful's Shilling Shockers, a show that's, frankly, better than Elvira's Movie Macabre, has been nominated for a Rondo Award. ...

Penny won Best Horror Host!

It's wonderful that an awards ceremony was held. And what a nice photo to commemorate it.
-
Congratulations again, Penny Dreadful! Love the photo! I'm glad that that furry husband of yours was able to attend, too.

Congrats!!! I'm sorry I left New England just as you were launching your show. Nothing personal...

Ha! I even posted in that thread, thanks for highlighting my forgetfulness, Midnite!
-
Hey Penny, did you get to hang around Tim Lucas? I love that guy, I've always wondered what he's like in person.
-
Congratulations Penny!

thanks for highlighting my forgetfulness, Midnite!
'S no problem. And I hadn't seen that great group shot before.

Aw, thanks everyone. That's very kind of you. The award ceremony was a lot of fun.

retzev, Tim and Donna Lucas are very nice and I really enjoyed talking with them. They showed us their gorgeous Mario Bava: All the Colors of the Dark book. It's a real work of art.
Magnus, I look forward to it. Decades you say? A decade is but a scant moment in time to one as primeval as myself. And yet, I still can't get social security benefits or the free coffee at that fast food joint. Go fig.
I think we should all try to vote Jonathan Frid in for the Hall of Fame category next year.

Makes me wonder what things might be like if we ever decided to host our own show. [naughty]

Well, I'm not sure that using cocaine just before the show would be that helpful....
