Carl Collins?
« on: August 04, 2002, 06:16:04 PM »
On another thread, Bob the Bartender suggests that a whoopee cushion would be an appropriate 'sign' for Carl Collins.

I've never seen any portion of that story line, so my question is:

Without **spoiling** any part of the plot.....what is the character of Carl Collins like?   Am I simply going to hate the character because (I'm getting the impression that) he's annoying?  Or does John Karlen manage to make him  sympathetic or amusing?

Comments, anyone?

IMHO, Carl is hilarious.  Several of his scenes make me laugh out loud, including a great one involving Barnabas. I think you'll like Carl --- Karlen does his usual outstanding job.

Dear Raineypark,

Without spoiling the upcoming 1897 plot line, try to think of Carl Collins (as portrayed by the pride of Red Hook, Mr. John Karlen) as a Dark Shadows amalgam of, say, Henny Youngman, Rip Taylor and Pee Wee Herman all rolled up into one.

I agree, Carl is a hoot!  And the scene where he meets his "cousin" Barnabas is priceless...I have no idea how Frid kept a straight face.   ;D

I agree!!  I thought that scene was hilarious!!

Lets just say Rainey, that he's nothing at all like Willie Loomis!! (but I think you'll like him anyway) ;)

Carl was such a great character!  ;D I almost liked him more than Willie.  It's too bad he didn't appear more often in the storyline.

I thought he had some decent hits from the first solo album:

In The Hair Tonight

I Don't Have Hair Anymore

    [well, you can tell everyone
            its a damn disgrace
the top of my head looks
            just like my face

            I don't have hair anymore

It won't grow, it won't grow]

shoulda stayed with Genesis, though.....

It's my personal favorite storyline, and Carl adds much needed comic relief. I've often wondered how much of dialogue Karlen ad-libbed during this storyline.

;D I like Cousin Carl very much, I look forward to seeing him once again... although as a sign for Carl Collins I would say it should be the very thing he greeted his cousin Barnabas with is much more worthy... much, much more worthy of Carl Collins. ;D
