This happened once before in 1994, when they showed the episode where Carolyn identifies the body of her friend Donna Friedlander at the sheriffs office, who is holding Chris under suspicion twice on the same day.

I wonder if there was a method to SciFi's madness...

There are 1225 episodes of Dark Shadows, an odd number.  Showing two each per day dictates that when the run of the show ends, on the last day there would only be one episode left unaired.

Maybe SciFi doubled up on 1087 so that this won't happen, and even on the last day they'll be able to air two eps.  :-

Possibly - by repeating episode #1087, they had 154 episodes left in this run. But when DS ended its '92-'97 run in September '97, the last two episodes they ran were #1245 and #1.

Considering that repeating episode #1087 was planned ahead of time, Sci-Fi obviously has something in mind. One thing they definitely weren't trying to do, though, was end this run at the end of this year. With all the pre-emptions in October, there aren't enough weekdays left in the year - even if they never pre-empt DS once in either November or December (which is something that's highly unlikely, anyway).
