"Rise" premiered this week on NBC and I was surprised to see Marley Shelton playing the wife of a (really annoying, to me) Pennsylvania HS English teacher [Josh Radnor] who sets out to revamp the school's Drama Dept. The series will air Tuesday nights in the "This Is Us" spot.

I DVR'd the show but haven't watched it yet. Now I have something to look forward to once I do get to it.
Thanks for the heads up, Midnite. [snow_smiley]

On Rise, the kids are all right but the adults need some work: EW review (http://ew.com/tv/2018/03/13/rise-review-nbc/)
I haven't watched the show yet, so I may feel differently after I do. But I find it strange that this review criticizes the show's main emphasis on the teacher character rather than the students when the series is based on a book written by a real teacher detailing his experiences. It seems odd to expect the focus of the show to be otherwise.

I think the point is that he should have, and could have, been written better. While transforming the school's theater department, the book's author also spends time coming to terms with his own sexuality; the TV version is a straight-washed, self-absorbed and often clueless man who stepped over a more qualified woman to get his new gig. There's little to like about Radnor's character.
My excitement to see this show had to do with our mutual friend who coincidentally also transitioned from English teacher at his former high school to head of its drama dept. His infinite talent made him a perfect fit, and I've found it impossible to go anywhere in his smallish college town without running into a former/current/future student demonstrating their respect and adulation for him; it's adorable!
Do let us know what you think about the show, MB.
