Calendar Events / Announcements '24 I / St. John in Exile
« on: April 29, 2023, 04:43:34 PM »
I just got the DVD of St. John in Exile through SwapaDVD. I have been very curious about this, because I never see it mentioned in anything talking about Dan Curtis' works. I haven't watched it yet (just played it through in fast-forward to check to make sure the disc is playable).

This is a video presentation of a one-man stage play starring Dean Jones as St. John the Apostle. The play is not directed by DC, but the video version of it is. I'm curious to see if there are any recognizable DC touches, like nosecam shots. 😁

I did look at the DC bio on the disc, and it totally leaves out anything about DS, even though that is DC's most widely-known work. Not surprising, I guess, given the expected target audience.

I think this is the only DC work I'm aware of that isn't a Dan Curtis Production. It's copyrighted by DJ Productions (Dean Jones, obviously). I wonder if Jones asked Curtis to direct the video as a favor? It's very much outside all the rest of DC's ouevre. (Well, I guess Our Fathers maybe sort of comes close...)

Just saw a promo for the Netflix film Mr. Harrigan's Phone, based on a Stephen King story. The Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum was a filming location.

According to today's "My 2 Cents" post on The Digital Bits, Burnt Offerings is coming out on Blu-ray!

"Kino Lorber has set Dan Curtis’ Burnt Offerings (1976) for release on Blu-ray and DVD in October, just in time from Halloween. It will feature a new HD master."

Testing. 1, 2, 3... / Blocked from forum on my tablet
« on: December 19, 2014, 02:37:24 AM »
A week or two ago I got blocked from the boards on my tablet.  (Expiration date of block:  never!)  I'm still able to get in through my phone, through my DSL line, and through my computer at work.  But my wi-fi tablet is blocked.  So, my phone will work, but my tablet tethered to my phone won't.  My home computer will work, but my tablet going through the same wi-fi account won't.  Any idea what might be going on?  What did my poor little tablet do to offend the boards?

According to a thread on Blu-ray.com, Dan Curtis' DRACULA will be arriving on Blu-ray on May 27, 2014:

http://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=237547

The source in the first post is a listing in amazon.ca:

But note that there is very little info about the release, and it's listed as an "import".  So far I haven't found anything at mpihomevideo.com.

Any of the cousins here planning on attending the midnight show Thursday night at Village Crossing in Skokie?  The only person I know who was interested in going with me can't make it.  Don't understand why anybody wouldn't want to go the midnight show!   [ghost_grin]  Anywho, if anybody else on this board is going to that screening and wants to meet up, please PM me.  Thanks!
