Dr. Lang, Dr. Howard, Dr. Fine!
« on: May 02, 2002, 01:24:40 AM »
Dr. Lang is just so. . .loud, obnoxious, pompous--and definitely brings out the worst in his fellow actors.

Bombastic, too!

He made a great Gorton's fisherman, pushing fish sticks in commercials, but he was just too overbearing for the role of Dr. Lang.

What do you all think of him thus far?

I think after the delicacy and sublime acting in the last few days of 1795/96, he's like a bull in a china shop!

Love, Robin

I agree Robin. He needs a lot to be desired as a practicing physician. It makes you desperate to accept Dr. Hoffman unorthodox ways. ;)

LOL! Was he in the Gorton's commercial? I think Addison Powell is very "stagey" - much like many of the other actors on the show. However, he does seem to have a problem with his lines, to the point of it being a distraction.

He was pretty good in The Thomas Crown Affair (the original with Steve McQueen), but he didn't have many lines.

I loathe Addison Powell's portrayal of Dr. Lang.  I also loathe Dr. Lang, but that's another story  :)

This is my first time seeing him.  So far I find him very arrogant.
The nurse scared me.  Thank goodness I have not met one like her.  Most of the nurses I have met have been wonderful.  Great bedside manners, vcery caring, and very smart.  She was a bad example of nursing.

Hey Gang,

I think that you'll have to agree that the good Dr. Lang does have an infectious, albeit, crooked smile.

LOL! I thought he looked familar!

Definetely reminds me a mad scientist!![crazd] On the other hand, I do have to give him some credit here for obvious reasons. He did manage to discover Barnabas' secret faster than anyone else I can think of! Perhaps it took someone with his "insanity" to be able to do this.[nuts] Just watching him today, and seeing him smirking at Julia, you can see that he's half mad. [silly]

Awww....*rubs dirt around with foot* i dunno  :-[ ....I don't think he's THAT bad.....of course, this is the first time I'm seeing this, so maybe I just haven't figured out that I don't like him yet, but I liked the scene between him and Julia....he was like soooooo determined 2 block her from taking Barnabus in *every* way he could......hehehahaha  :D *closes mouth b4 she can say anything she'll regret later*  :P

I don't think he's that bad, tho. And I loved him pulling the shade on Barnabus!!!  ;D *EVIL WICKED LAUGH!* THAT WAS HILARIOUS!!!!!!!!! *applaudes* It's about time Barnabus realized he can't always have his own way with everyone he comes in2 contact with. I like seeing someone who doesn't always protect him -- like Julia always protects him, guards him, lies 4 him, *puts up with him!*, is very patient with him, etc etc etc, and Lang is just like....."*shrug*" He's got no emotional attachment 2wards him, and I'm like "YAAAAAAY!!! AT LAST!!!!!! ;D  ;D" LOL Okay anyway.....

Oh, all the vitriol tossed at poor Dr. Lang!  Yes, you really have to give the guy a LOT of credit for catching on faster than anyone else has on DS!  Not even Dr. Hoffman has him beaten there.   ;)

In a way, I think that Addison Powell's portrayal actually suits the character.  After all, Lang is your typical mad scientist, nothing at all like the kindly Dr. Woodard.

Or maybe it's just that Dr. Lang doesn't seem so bad in comparison to Jeff Clark, as played by that master of overacting, Roger Davis!
