Well, somebody had to say it!  God, he was spazzing all over the place.  He needs to take some lessons from Prof. Stokes on keeping his head.  I think Adam said it best: "Willie bad!"

I was actually rootting (sp?) for Julia to use her secret weapon. . her bitch slap!  Learned at all the best medical/psyciatric schools. . .

I didn't see it posted here but on another list, the following site was noted, you can hear Grayson's uncredited Haunted House work for Disney that she did while apparently making That Darn Cat:

Hmmmmm. . .Glenn Close as Grayson??? She doesn't strongly physically resemble her but I bet she could get the personality down pat.

I agree, MikeS.  His portrayal of the learned professor may have influenced the writers during the 1968 storyline, but

his inspiration seems to have been forgotten during the 1840 storyline (he, like Barnabas and Julia, was a time-traveler from the present), for although he did arrive in 1840, the writers gave him precious little to say or do.  Pity.  ?!?

Ben

I agree Ben . .what was his arrival in 1840 about?  First off Julia was so glad to see someone she knew after Ben died and then . ..Eliot doesn't do anything. . .pops in and out, says he's off to do something, which we never see the results of. . .he's around when Julia disappears too, isn't he . . ?? All we see is Barnabas lamenting her loss. . but where's Eliot to try and help find her?  Strange writing choice they made there.  .very strange. . .

Catchin' up on this weeks DS. . and I noted when Julia was at Eliots house, sitting on the couch, you could totally see up her dress. . .she's a nylon stocking gal with garter belts no pantyhose for her . . my my Eliot got an eyefull.

Now what other clothing snafus happened on DS?? We've done props galore . . anyone have an obviously unzipped fly or anything?[silly]

I think technically Swift had it going. .the artsy camera angles of Julia thru the magnifying glasses, and mirrors were Swift episodes.  But "actor" style, Kaplan got more subtlty and honesty out of the actors, they were restrained and the screen blocking was more for television and not the stage.  I remember when once, in PT a character was unconscious. .they had the camera angle on the floor and I remember noting it .. because other times.. .they'd have the person up on a bed or couch. . Kaplan seemed to try and make the "human physical actions" more real. . is that the right phrase?

because every morning Lela Swift (who was sitting further down on the panel from him) would tell him, "We need more.  More."  He said that one day he decided to let her have it by really pouring it on for her and she reined him in, saying he should save it for later when they'll need it again, and that's when he knew what she wanted.  Lara Parker agreed with him that directors always wanted more theatricality, saying that Hank Kaplan used to give out grades for it.  She said he'd open the dressing room door and say, for example, "B minus".

Unfortunately, no one thought to pose a question about it to Lela directly.

That's an interesting commentary because I have posted before that the Henry Kaplan directed episodes seem more nuances and "less stagey" than the others, particularly Lela.  And in particular, under Henry's direction, Grayson seemed more restrained.  I always assumed it was because Lela was intimidted by Grayson and didn't give her **any** direction. . .but my take on whats been said here, is that these actors were constantly told to go over the top. ..hmmm, interesting tidbit.
