Naturally, we must give mention to Barnabas' nickname right before 1970 PT, when the Leviathans made him a vampire again and Barn's hair developed a shocking streak of grey: the one, the only... SKUNKABAS!

Susie the mute waitress.

A few nicknames were used on the show-- "kitten" may be the most well known, but another is Carolyn's name for Bill Malloy:  old chin and whiskers.  I'm not sure which would have bothered him more if he'd heard it-- being called old or being compared to a cat.

Roger And Carolyn referred to David as the little monster.

But my favorite is Buzz's pet name for Liz:  Mommy!   [ghost_cheesy]

What, because he disappeared and was never heard from again?

Nope, it's because Harry Johnson was a brown-to-reddish skinned person of Louisiana with dark eyes and straight, frizzy or curly hair.

loril54,

Forget about the sheds.  They don't matter.

Seriously, that's from an amusing early Monty Python sketch called "Arthur 'Two Sheds' Jackson."  I'm sure it's on YouTube.

The 70s band "Redbone" may have been from there too.   They had two hits, "Come And Get Your Love" and I think "Witch Queen of New Orleans".    As I understand it, the whole band disappeared and no one knows what happened.  I don't mean they just stopped being successful; they physically couldn't be found.   Supposedly, the first band made up of American Indians.

Craig Slocum seems to speak like Ray Bolger.    What kind of accent is that, I wonder....

[lghy]  A perfect summation of her serious relationships with men! Obviously she'd fall in love with anyone from a control freak to someone who acted like a lunatic nearly 24/7. No wonder she and Frank never really went anywhere: he was much too normal.  [wink2]

I think you and retzev hit the nail on the head MB. Vicki did seem to have a preference for unusual types of men. Guess poor Frank did look too ordinary when compared to a vampire, an ex-convict and a hot-headed amnesiac. LOL

Well, Joe Haskell once really did refer to Bob-the-Bartender as "Punchy." [confused5]

Personally, I like to think of Bob as the "Sultan of Stogies"! [thumb] [beer]

Perfect!!  [thumb]  As I've said many times, Barnabas so very rarely ever thought with the head on his shoulders.  [wink2]

When you're right, you're right MB. [ghost_wink]

As much as I love Barnabas, he did need to get his head out of the clouds. [ghost_embarrassed]

But then, would he be half as interesting to watch if he did? [ghost_nowink]

Indeed he would!  My heart always sinks when Barnabas starts going moony-spoony over a sweet young thing.

That's a basic dilemma of life, though.   It's just as well that it's represented on DS.    Pushing further into the issue would have been nice, and maybe an uncancelled DS in the early 70s would have.

Quite frankly, the characters of DS, not the supernatural elements, are why I enjoy the show, and a good deal of that is the friendship and jealousy between Barnabas and Julia. It's quite clear with Julia, from the minor things (her "Here we go again!" looks when Barnabas finds Josette in 1897 and finds Roxanne in 1970PT, as well as her "What else have you had, Barnabas?" in relation to Megan) to the major (her outburst over Angelique, and did it look to anyone else like [spoiler]she shoved Roxanne out of the PT room at the end of 1970PT?[/spoiler]). It always provided a good amount of entertainment from those two. Of course, the fact that Barnabas was thoroughly unwilling to let Julia get swept away by some other vampire is an interesting parallel to that.
