« on: February 02, 2009, 02:26:23 AM »
The Cinefamily at the Silent Movie Theater, as part of their Friday Midnights series, is presenting a festival of Lesbian Vampire films throughout the month of February, with "Daughters of Darkness" starring John Karlen screening on February 27.  Tickets are $10.  Here's your chance to see his punch bowl scene on the big screen!

For more info, or to purchase tickets:  http://www.silentmovietheatre.com/calendar/friday_late.html

The restored Silent Movie Theater is in the Fairfax District of Los Angeles.

Lesbian vampires!
What's next: gay werewolves?

But seriously, this is a GREAT film.
Shot in a lavish, desolate beachfront hotel in Belgium, it oozes atmosphere, & it's kinky as hell!

Karlen plays one half of a couple of bisexual newlyweds who get into a game of cat & mouse
with a pair of lesbian vampires: one of whom is no less than Countess Elizabeth Bathory!

The film is creepy, erotic and wonderful.
Karlen made it right after NODS: he looks GREAT naked!

I lucked out and found a director's cut VHS.   I didn't get much of what was going on, so it's time for a second viewing.  I just became aware of Bathory recently, so there's a nice horrific bit of context that should help... I learned that you have to kill a lot of people to bathe in blood-- we each only have a gallon and a half or so!

Actually, Karlen shot DoD before NoDS. In fact, DoD opened in NYC in May of '71 (check out the NY Times review here).

What will be interesting will be whether they show the 100 minutes European version or the 87 minutes US version. Hopefully it will be the longer version because the US version cuts out way too much.  [snow_rolleyes]  [snow_sad]

What excuse do these pathetic individuals have this year for running that terrible US release print?  I seem to recall that when the director was in town a couple of years ago it was poor planning and failure to get hold of the restored print.

GREAT movie, which deserves to be more widely known--but not in this sad butchered disgrace!

What is the punch bowl scene?
I get a kick out of these guys who think they're so clean, when all the time they're trying to cover up their dirt.

Man, you can find anything on YouTube nowadays, can't you?

Thank you, Midnight, for posting the link.

I recall the scene now. Gad, I hate that movie.

Well, anything that evokes such strong feelings both ways deserves a second look!
