Hmm, Roger was an artist in the 91' series and spent a lot of time planning secret rendevous with Maggie, so I don't think he was going to the Cannery to work every day. Maybe they just lived off the interest of their capital, which would make a challenge from Burke rather obsolete.

Yes, looking back, the 1991 series lacked anything in the way of subplots. Sure, there were hints of things in the backgrounds of several characters, but no actual plots. Everything had to do with the Barnabas plot.
