Thanks everyone for the welcome back posts from several of you, it means a lot.  I was never a huge poster but I did post fairly regularly form '02 - '08.  Not sure why I stopped, life just got busier.  Anyway, I had forgotten how great it is to come here and interact with people who share my love for this great show.
What you all did wasn't anything huge, but you made me feel welcome and that I belong and everyone likes that.  :) So again  - thanks
Yes  - I promise I will come back here more often and post when something catches my fancy.

Hi Josette, she watched it for about a week and became satisfied that it wasn't too violent for me to watch.  It just wasn't her cup of tea, she was in her early 50's at this point and had six other kids besides myself and also had grandchildren to spoil.  I'm just glad she allowed me to watch it.  :)

Last night was my first post in many years and I don't remember how to include Josette's question to me in my response.   Sorry if it seems disjointed.

I was an every day viewer of the original show.  Yes, I was one of the millions of kids that ran home everyday from school to watch the show.  I had just turned 11 when the movie premiered and my mom took me and a few friends to see it.  She allowed me to watch the show everyday but only had a vague idea what it was about.   The movie was 100 times more violent than the television show, my mother did not realize this and forbid me to watch it anymore.  I advised her that the show was not nearly as violent but she would have none of it.  This was early November of 1970.  I remember going to my father and pleading with him that I be allowed to watch the show again.  I told him the show was not as violent as the movie and he said he'd discuss it with my mother.  Later that night they said that my mother would watch it with me and then decide.  She did and I was able to watch the show until it was cancelled approx. 5 months later.

I know the movie was a huge moneymaker but I've always believed that it was at least partially responsible for the demise of the show because there were probably many other parents who watched the movie with their children and then forbid them to watch the show believing it was as violent as the movie.  It's my understanding that the ratings for the show took a steep dive after the release of the movie.  I also understand the ratings did climb back somewhat for the last storyline, 1841 Parallel Time.

RIP Mr Frid, I have many great memories of running home from school to watch my favorite show.  To me he was Dark Shadows and I loved he and Lara Parker in their roles.  The show represents to me innocence and a safe place to be.  I was 11 when the show went off the air in 1971.  I remember being devastated that I would no longer be able to watch my favorite show.  Two months later my father died and that was the most tramatic event in my life to this day.  That is why the show represents innocence to me, it was a time when I had my dad and could run home from school to watch my favorite show.
Thank you Mr. Frid for the many great memories I have of you as my favorite vampire, Barnabas Collins!

Lara Parker -  hands down.  I was in love with her during the shows' original run.  I also lost my heart to Kate Jackson during the last year of the show.  I was all of 11 when it went off the air.

Happy birthday Barnabas' Bride!!

I don't know if you realize it but we share our birthday with the great Lara Parker, who I had a massive crush on back in the day.  I hope today is the start of a great year ahead for you.

It's interesting that she and David Ford died on the same day, two years apart.  I respect both of their works on Dark Shadows.

I hope they are resting in peace......

Hi Rainingwolf,

I don't have the early episodes on VHS but I watched the first disc of the early episodes and they each have begun with the intro boards and I know the first episode with the original commercials in on disc 4, which I haven't watched yet.

I hope this helps!

Chris had a brother named Tom, who was bitten by Angelique and became a vampire.  As far as I know he never suffered from the werewolf curse.  Of course, at this point in the storyline Joe was Tom's only relative, so the writers hadn't dreamed up Chris and Amy yet.

I'm with you Gothic, I find it easier to enjoy Dark Shadows on it's own terms and not try too make sense of the plotlines.

Hi mscbryk,

Having seen the entire run of the series, the one I personally disliked the most is 1968, after 1795 and right before the Quentin hauntings.  I can go crazy with the inconsistencies that each story line has but 1968 for the most part just dragged on and on and on...IMO

The Leviathan while certainly not my favorite has many good elements in my opinion.  I also found many good things to like about 1970PT, 1995, 1840-41 and 1841PT.  1970 regular time dragged a lot for me because it focused so heavily on David and Hallie.

Just my opinion............I know there are many that disagree with my tastes but that's what helps to make this forum interesting.
