Drinking Contest: Roger vs. Quentin
« on: June 07, 2005, 05:56:34 PM »
Lines 'em up!  It's the drinking contest to end all drinking contests!

On one side we have Roger "Brandymaster" Collins and on the other side we have Quentin "Superlush" Collins.  Who can knock back the most brady shots and still remain standing?

I have to go with Quentin. Has anybody ever calculated the number of brandy glasses he threw at the fireplace? I bet it's in the hundreds. He spent many a day listening to that gramophone and swilling down likker.

Does it have to be brandy? Or, all alcohol? IIRC, during '66-'67, Roger seems to drink, what I'll assume (hmm) is scotch or whiskey.

This will sound stupid, but did they have whiskey/rye/scotch readily available in 1897?

Great Question PennyDreadful.  Gosh would I pick?  First there's Roger.  When I hear the word "brandy", I think of Roger.  Coming home from the cannary, or traveling abroad, the first thing he goes for is...a brandy.  He sort of lives off of this stuff.  He had a head injury and he still drank. [8285]

Then there's Quentin.  Listening to his gramophone  [gramophone], inviting ladies of the night up to the groundskeeper cottage,  or when he had nothing to do...there was brandy.  But, there was also sherry and wine.

Quentin was the predecessor and Roger was the student, but a very good student. [8285]

I have to go with Quentin, and Roger close behind him [beer].

Nicholas:  I am much to talented to spend my time drugging drinks.

Are we only talking about 1897?  Because William H. AND Carolyn Loomis could both drink like [fish].

Have to bet on Quentin on this one.. Roger looks more like a social drinker, and if it came to guzzling he would probably pass out fairly quickly...Quentin stays blitzed a lot, and drinks heavily it seems quite often, so he would be used to the large amounts.
its a sudden death that i know, my father wrote me to say that, my cousin, uncle jeremiah was, was very disturbed.

I went with Quentin because the guy is the ultimate hedonist.  Roger would definitely be a very close second in the hard liquor department though.

I was gonna add an "Other" option for characters like the PT Loomises and '66 Sam Evans, but decided to make it just Roger and Quentin for the poll, since they seem to be the ones  who just always had that casual shot of booze in hand.

Roger seems to be more of a functional drunk; we never see him sloshed, but the sheer amount of booze he puts away is pretty scary. He's got a decanter in his room. He drinks at all hours of the day and night. He drinks when he's stressed; he drinks when he's celebrating; he drinks just because.

Quentin's pretty bad too, but I think Roger's got him beat in this area. You don't have to be breaking glassware to be a hardcore alcoholic.

Maybe Rodger wasn't always drinking . .

We've replaced Rodgers regular Alcohol with new Folgers Alcohol Light.  ;)

Who can knock back the most brady shots and still remain standing?

This is a very good question... I for one would tend to give Quentin more credit in the field of  intoxication and inebriation.. this may stem from the Collins' genes, giving them a stronger tolerance for anything alcoholic, as for who would be left standing? why Quentin of course!

I have to vote for Quentin.  I've been watching the 1897 DVD's and he seems to have beated Roger in the VHS tapes that I've seen.  Quentin's drinking scenes were more powerful than Roger's also.

Quinten was the original lush of the Collins clan. Roger just followed in his ancestors boots.

Long live the makers of Brandy Collinsport would be lost without them
