Title: 9 TERRIFYINGLY AMUSING FACTS ABOUT 'DARK SHADOWS'
Post by: Mysterious Benefactor on March 19, 2016, 01:52:00 AM
Found this on the MeTV Web site:

9 TERRIFYINGLY AMUSING FACTS ABOUT 'DARK SHADOWS' (http://www.metv.com/lists/9-terrifyingly-amusing-facts-about-dark-shadows)

We should only be so lucky that it might mean they'll run DS sometime. But there's no hint of it that I could see. It seems to just be to commemorate DS' 50th Anniversary. Which is nice in and of itself. But still...  [wink2]

So in which ep can we see Kate Jackson's dress catch fire?

I don't know the specific episode number but it's towards the end of the Daphne/Gerard 1970 story. Hallie and David performed some silly ritual to resurrect one of them that involved placing a lot of lit candles on the floor. Daphne is the one who comes back to life. It was the first time that Kate Jackson spoke on the show and she was quite nervous. Adding to her nerves was David Henesy smacking her all over her legs. It wasn't until the director called cut did she realize that she had walked too close to the candles and David was trying to keep the fire from spreading.
I don't know if it really is noticeable on tape.

When they said that they didn't stop tape for anything, they weren't kidding!

I watched that scene a couple of times several years ago and I don't recall noticing that you could tell that Daphne's dress was on fire.

On another occasion, as veteran fans know, Marie Wallace's wig caught on fire.

As I always say, it's practically miraculous that DS was as good as it was.  Part of what made it so good was that all the major actors had stage training.  In David's case, he also clearly had nerves of steel.

It's from the episode where Eve goes back in time to 1795 to visit Peter Bradford and retrieve the Collins family history book that Vicki left behind. The infamous Gloria Winters episode.

MB, I know that I know, but who is the short man standing right behind/beside Burke. Also, there's another short man behind Nancy Barrett, but he's totally obfutiscated. Who?

Thanks for the link....I don't believe I ever heard about Kate Jackson's dress getting caught on fire!!

So many fine DS actors catching on fire, will the tragedy never end?  Wasn't there something with Lara in 1795 and the evil house of cards that somehow could be used to summon Satan, and a bit of out of control fire there?  If not, it was pretty close to it.

Yeah, Magnus, a stagehand apparently put too much lighter fluid on the house of cards and it went up in flames much quicker than it was supposed to. It was supposed to burn through the entire scene. It didn't and came close to taking out Lara's eyebrows. [snow_wow]
