I still don't understand why Dirk told Jenny to wait. To see if the coast was clear so to speak?

I'm guessing it was to set up the Sunset Boulevard-ish scene with Jenny's "I'm coming to kill you" closeup.  As if the audience had any doubt by now that Jenny is insane.  [easter_rolleyes]

Why give her the weapon right then when she could use it on anybody? Why not wait until she's at the door to the Old Hous

Because it might make him look guilty if he disappeared from the big house or failed to complete his duties? [idontknow]

There was a significant amount of time for the stylist to get the wig off and pull her regular hair back.

Was Marie wearing a wig when she played Jenny?  I thought she was one of the few actresses who didn't wear hairpieces, but I could be wrong.  False lashes for days, though.

Did anyone see the boom when they did the shot through the staircase?

And MW tripped, poor thing.

Wonder who's portrait hangs in Josettes room? It's quite lovely.

It's interesting that the Old House is filled with portraits of females, but portraits of the male ancestors seem to predominate at Collinwood. Does that make Collinwood masculine and the Old House feminine?

Wonder what Jonathan really wrote on his letter.
"Dear Mother, ..." Just kidding!   [easter_wink]

At this point, there's no doubt that Quentin was intent on murder.
Q:  She's an animal with a knife.
Judith:  You're an animal with a gun.
Awesome.

Did anyone else find it odd that Q&J were married in a Church?

Now we know where Angelique got her clothing in 1897.  Cuz that first dress that Jenny touched in the trunk was Ang's poison green number.

Do we know who portrayed the Hangman in today's snapshot from 1796?  He looks like quite the Sixties cutie.

The description kinda surprised me, but I'm sure it was Howard Honig in the picture.  He pops up once in a while in episodic TV shows from the 70s and 80s.

I also think I may well be the only Quentin/Chris shipper in the world.

You very well may be, since
Quentin is Chris' great grandfather.
Wonderful comments, guys and gal!

There was never an indication in the present day that Barnabas was told about Roger's wife.  And when Quentin told him that he saw the 1897 Laura consumed by flames but that somehow she came back for her children, Barnabas' reaction clearly showed that he did not find the scenario at all familiar.  So although it's odd that Vicki or Carolyn or someone else didn't fill him in at some point on what the present-day Laura nearly pulled off in the fishing shack before his release, at least the writers are being consistent.

From the opening voiceover:  "Mysteries have begun here in the past that will affect the lives of all who live in the present. ... The motive behind [Laura's] return and the dark secrets of her past represent a threat to the entire Collins family."
And Barnabas later repeats, in his conversation with Quentin, that Laura presents a threat to the future of the family.  Does this mean that she was not there in the original timeline?  Or, since we know that David survived in the unchanged past, is she more of a threat now?  If either of these is what the writers were getting at, then I can't think of anything that Barnabas may have done that would cause Laura to be there, or to change what's to come for her.  Or is Barnabas just deluding himself?

I found it terribly funny that they had to move the superimposed body of Laura after she fainted in order to get her clear of the brick hearth.

Couldn't the family get Jenny's dress sewn after it was torn?

I think it was Alexandra and Joan in the early Barney black and white eps.  It is on the bloopers DVD...and they are obvously disturbed but trying to hold it together...sorry for  getting off topic!!!

If it was Alexandra and Frid, then it was #290.  The story was told at an early Festival (before they were even called that, I imagine) that the small fire was in Alexandra's view but not Frid's, but since the taping was never stopped the actors somehow (barely?) kept it together.  When the extinguishers started Frid began to stumble with his lines and Alexandra seemed to not want to look directly at him-- it's a pretty amusing mess.

It's good to see you posting again, katrinavantassel!

Darkness at Blaisedon was included as a special feature on another DVD that was released this past January.  See:

We can really get out of control with the spoiler thing if we want to.

Or, we can continue handling spoilers the same as we have been.  [smlyb]

The present day crypt had only the initial L on the tombstone making it appear that it could be any gender.

Ah, good point that it had only her first initial, though the caretaker informed Vicki that "she" died by fire.  And in #180,
the creepy cryptkeeper told Laura that he was searching books in the crypt for any information he could find on the Murdochs, Stockbridges and Radcliffes for Dr. Guthrie, plus he knew the doc was already focused on the two women who died by fire, so...
...I'm still thinking that putting Jeremiah's wife (maiden name Stockbridge) in that crypt is yet another example of bad continuity.

Gothick,

I recently had a reading experience trashed by a chapter-by-chapter reviewer who didn't bother to include a spoiler warning when a guest writer revealed the book's biggest mystery while brought in to discuss an early chapter.  The reviewer explained, "We tried to walk the line between not giving too much away for the Readers and still engaging the ReReaders by pointing out the foreshadowing as we passed it by. Sorry we landed on the wrong side of the line for you."  (Did I mention that he suggested I follow along with his blog when I purchased the book from him, or that the story came out 25 years ago?)  So regarding spoiler warnings here, I feel that one could think of DS as a classic and wonderful novel that is more enjoyable as a shared experience, yet not everyone who is reading along wants to be told how it's going to end.

I highly recommend Battlestar Galactica, btw, which is best viewed from the beginning and spoiler-free.
