Title: Host working on the server
Post by: Mysterious Benefactor on December 22, 2005, 07:34:42 PM
Neither Midnite or I seem to be experiencing anything (in either Windows or Linux), but some members have reportedly experienced strangeness on the forum today. If you've been one of those members, it's most probably because our host is currently working on the server. They say that work should be complete by 4:51 pm ET / 1:51 pm PT.

4:51?

Why 4:51?

Why not 4:52?

Or better yet, 4:50?..... [scratch]

Excellent questions - but we'd have to ask them why they're so precise.

Maybe we should just be thankful that they're not so anal as to estimate their completion times down to the second.  [santa_grin]

Our IT guys at the office:
"On Thurs. 12/22, the work server will be down from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m."

Translation:
"On Thur. 12/22, the work server will be down from 12:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., and then intermittently on 12/23 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.  It will likely be very slow when you return from the Christmas holiday, and on 12/27, it will be down again from 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. If you experience any difficulty after this date, we will have to take the server down again."

It seems as if they might have finished a bit early - at least as far as we're concerned. The main situation was that the server had been put into read-only mode, meaning we couldn't upload anything new. However, I was just able to upload something and then access it without any problem whatsoever.  :)
