Title: Happy Birthday to Abe Vigoda
Post by: Elmont on February 24, 2008, 11:25:00 PM
Hey Gang, old Abe hit 87 today. It's funny but I think he looks younger now than back on Dark Shadows.

I was wondering how he was doing.   I just saw him in 1968 for the "first time" (I don't remember the first airing) and everybody sure wanted him old.... he was always hired to play an old man no matter what.    In real time, I last saw him playing a Christmas tree on Conan O'Brien.

Yes, but I was afraid that maybe that was all Mr. Vigoda was able to do at that point, just stand there, in which case it could have been sort of an indignity....

Well, it wasn't the first time that Vigoda had been the butt of a joke on Conan, who seems to love to pick someone and just run with repeated jokes involving them to great comedic effect. And one wouldn't think that Vigoda would agree to be a part of the show if he felt it was going to be an indignity. He obviously has an amazing willingness to poke fun at himself. And thankfully we've since learned that he's been capable of doing far more than simply stand in for a Christmas tree.
