Chloe Moretz: Dark Shadows Favourite?
« on: January 22, 2016, 11:33:44 PM »
The Depp/DS was much more successful in Europe than the US - that's certainly no secret. But is Chloe Moretz the "Dark Shadows favourite"? Well, according to the following article from the London's Daily Mail she is because that's the way they describe her:

interesting...

except for bella heathcote and gulliver mcgrath, who've I've never seen in anything else before or since, I actually don't associate any of the 2012 players with the movie anymore.

it was a minor blip in most of their careers.

In terms of worldwide financial success DS still remains Chloe's biggest film. Perhaps that's why they refer to her in terms of DS. Though The 5th Wave may be poised to surpass DS in her career. But we've said that before with some of her other films yet it hasn't materialized. In fact, DS has still grossed at least 3 times more that any film she's been in since...

I wonder what the current "status" of the film is outside the fandom (where we know how it ranks)?

how is it viewed in the overall Burton oeuvre? among Depp fans? DVD sales and online streaming? does it have it's own self-contained fanbase outside the general DS universe? seems like the sort of trippy thing college kids would get stoned and watch 200 times.

you don't hear much about it. it exists in some sort of void.   [snow_huh]

I was doing some research on the Boston Library Web site last month and just for the fun of it looked up to see what they said about the film. They gave it 4 stars out of 5. But then almost universally the Boston critics loved the film (just one example being the link I posted in the film's topic where the Boston Globe critics seemingly couldn't praise it enough), so apparently something about the film tickles the Boston/MA sensibility (and I'm evidence of that, too [snow_wink]). Though as much as I've enjoyed what Chloe was given to do in the film, it's no secret that I've enjoyed what Michelle Pfeiffer and Helena Bonham Carter did more...

If you search on tumblr https://www.tumblr.com/search/dark+shadows 99.9999% the top DS related posts are from the Burton version, so it has it's own fanbase, but I'm not sure how active it is currently.

As far as USA, to me it seems that I see Eva Green (hope I got that right); she's everywhere.

But, come on now, MRS. JOHNSON ROCKS!!!

I just saw mention of the DS movie in this article: http://www.msn.com/en-us/movies/news/the-10-worst-movie-remakes-of-the-past-20-years/ar-BBoIYod?li=BBnb7Kz&ocid=iehp#page=4

It does not sound like the author was impressed with it; he also bashes several of Burton's other films.

As we've mentioned, bashing Burton just for the sake of bashing Burton, especially bashing him online, is a favorite pastime with some critics, so, sadly, it comes as no surprise that the article would say what it does about his films.  [snow_rolleyes]

I didn't know film critics bash Tim Burton.

I'm sure he's laughing...all the way to the bank...
I've heard some bashing about Quentin Tarantino.

What I like about S. King, Q. Tarantino & T. Burton is that they're our agish; they tend to employ actors from TV shows we all grew up watching. I really do like that, alot.

I hadn't heard anything about Europe; is there some specifics, eg., London, Madrid, Tuscany?

Also, is there any info about the far east?

Thanks

Patti
