Can you believe Sci Fi Channel is adding wrestling to the schedule?
Read it here, scrll down to find it.

I left some feedback.
Dark Shadows didn't fit in, but wrestling does?
-
That makes me want to hurt someone. Oh Scifi channel? Remember when you aired good shows? Like MST3K (even though you did make them add a plot element to the host segments, as WTF do you need that for as that was).
-
Don't hurt anybody Arashi! The DVDs are coming out at a pretty steady clip ;D
-
ECW is creative at the very least, though nowhere near "science fiction." When I think of the channel "SciFi," I don't think of creative, imaginative things, I think of SCIENCE FICTION/HORROR.
I have no clue what the heck was going through their minds when they picked that up for the summer.
Ah, well. Even if DS did come on the air on some channel again, I'd still collect the DVD's just to watch episodes at my leisure. :)
-
And yet they cancel Passions from its morning line up just as it starts getting good. WTH is hell wrong with Sci-fi. ECW? Wrestling? WTH is that? We must have entered the twilight zone for real or something. Screw sci-fi for screwing both the Dark Shadows and Passions fans!

Apparently some rookie in the programming department saw all those Buck Rogers episodes and concluded that science fiction = spandex. Therefore, wrestling is appropriate programming for a science fiction network. ;D
-
LOL, MsC!
After spotting Law & Order: SVU on their evening schedule recently, nothing they add to their lineup surprises me. Even with the NBC thing it was still too bizarre, and it's not like you can't get your L&O fix on another network most evenings anyway. Unless this was a SciFi version: "In outer space, sexually-based offenses are considered especially heinous..." :P
-
I agree that it's goofy they have wrestling on the SciFi Channel. I mean, using that logic, some of the fights on DS were about as ridiculously choreographed as WWF and should warrant them showing DS again. Having said that, I feel SciFi did a LOT for DS and they don't owe us a thing. ;) I mean, geez, they aired if for over 10 years! ;D

OMG, they've already canceled Passions?! Well, well. So much for their belief that it was "a perfect fit" for the channel. ::)

[stfl] But, sadly, that doesn't sound too far off from some of the thinking that's going on over there these days. [sad3]

From what I've seen, it has "mysteriously disappeared" from the channel. There hasn't been anything official saying that it was cancelled yet.

I had SUCH high hopes for that channel when it began. I kept my fingers crossed that they would also branch out to old sci-fi flicks and maybe even old horror films. But no such luck.
Instead they seem to be chasing an audience that doesn't want them.
-
The only thing I've watched on the scifi channel in recent years is the new Battlestar Galactica. They've never really had anything on that made me turn on the television otherwise.

I'm with you on this! I only watched DS and Scare Tactics. Everything else didn't interest me one iota.

Wouldn't that be nice? I had a mini Hammer Horror movie marathon with my folks last night, and was thinking if there was a channel that showed this stuff all the time I'd never turn it off.

Well, there is a "Horror Channel".....but I don't think it's available anywhere except on the Internet. It's based in New Jersey and I'm in New York and I've never seen it listed anywhere on cable TV.
-
From what i have seen recently regarding wrestling...it definitely belongs on Sci-FI
Would love to see tag team of original Burke Devlin (Mitch Ryan) and 2nd Matthew Morgan (Thayer David) team up against Joe Haskell and Bob the Bartender at the Whale....cage match
-
I was disappointed when the Horror Channel never became a reality. What happened with that, anyway? I thought it was supposed to be a regular channel .

Thanks for the link!
I suddenly want the dish network. *shakes fist at directTV* You'll carry that new babyTV channel and not the horror channel?!

Haha Midnite but i'd love to see Elliot turn vamp i'd stand in line for that bite ;D

you have that right
how about Hoffman and Angelique against Julia and Roxanne
or "The Big Show" Ben against the breathing monster Jeb

Ugh...why am I not surprised? Ever since Sci-Fi cancelled *both* Mystery Science Theater *and* Dark Shadows, I have nothing to do with it. It's such a crappy channel now.
-
At least they show the new Dr Who, right?
There are only a handful of great SF series that have ever been made. unless you have all of them, or almost all, you don't have much of a "Sci-Fi Channel". Trek, Dr Who (the original), early Space:1999, Blake's 7, Babylon Five.... who needs shallow Hollywood action movies dressed up as science-fiction with expensive effects? You can't build a whole SF channel on that anyway. I get the impression that's what the Sci-Fi Channel is. Americans usually overlook the British stuff.

What do you think of RED DWARF? I've heard it's good -
-
The New Doctor Who is really good. Now I just wish they'd make a really good new Dark Shadows! It would also be nice if they aired the original Dark Shadows.
-
retzev-- I love Red Dwarf. It changes wildly from season to season though, so if you see one and don't like it, that doesn't mean you won't like the rest or a lot of it anyway. Seasons one and two are fundamentally different from 3-8. Eight I don't like much but the rest are incredible.

Red Dward is teh shit. Seriously, it's brillant.
-
I'm gonna have to look into that :)

Hmm, what's next for the Sci-Fi Channel?:
Joannie Loves Chachie
The "Best" of Thicke of the Night (with the irrepressible/unforgettable Alan Thicke, of course!)
Hunter
Laverne & Shirley
My Mother the Car
Putting on the Hits
The PTL Club
Dance Fever
The Baseball Bunch
Family Matters
The Love Boat
The "Best" of Live with Regis and Kathie Lee?
Ugh! Beam me up, Bathia Mapes!!! >:( :o ::)
-
Well, I guess it's fitting for the Sci-Fi Channel, since its decline from being classy into being clumsy. After all, what can be more "fiction" and more "horror-able" than professional wrestling?

[laughing_devil] Scary thing is you're probably RIGHT. And they're probably NOT rookies either.
I remember when they were first plugging the channel at the local Science Fiction club gatherings 10-15 years ago. How shocked these guys were that the High Council and members of the Dr. Who Club (The Prydonians of Princeton -- 1200 members in 48 states and 6 foreign countries) were adults with real jobs, and not 15 year old brainburn cases.
They never have had an idea what the target audience for a Science Fiction channel REALLY is.
-
I sincerely hope that their wrestling show the other night produced the lowest ratings of any show since the inception of their network, and volumes of hate mail that it'll take them until the middle of August to sort through. But would even that be enough to penetrate their skulls? Probably not.
