Number 75. January 23, 2002.

*******************************************************************

Hello, Dark Shadows Fan,

ShadowGram (SG) announces the following breaking news for Dark Shadows

(DS), just received directly from Dan Curtis' office.

The upcoming SG #95 and future SG print issues will report all

confirmed developments.

* Dan Curtis Productions (DCP) reports: "The Fox Television Network

has ordered a pilot script for a potential new Dark Shadows weekly

primetime hour series for the 2002 fall season.

"Dan Curtis has finished the script along with a collaborator, and it

has been delivered to Fox for consideration. No decision has yet been

made whether the script will be produced or if a new Dark Shadows

series will appear. It is only a possibility at this point, but updates

will be reported as soon as the news is available" through SG print

issues and this SG Online Updates List.

"In the meantime, reruns of the original DS daytime series continue on

the Sci-Fi cable channel weekday mornings, with two half-hour shows

airing back to back.

"MPI Home Video, which has released all 1,225 original DS shows on VHS

tape, will begin DVD releases starting this summer, offering 10

complete, unedited episodes per disc, along with bonus material to be

announced."

SG emphasizes there are no definite production plans, cast, airdate, or

any other specific decisions for a possible new DS. This is only a

proposed project in development.

The upcoming next print issue SG #95, subsequent SGs, and this SG

Updates List will have confirmed information on the above, plus reports

and photos from recent DS events and cast member appearances, and all

the DS news.

Thank you.

Thanks Criseyde for posting that. I didn't receive one--the only one I think I've missed. I hope Marcy's mailing list hasn't crashed.

Ugh, DS on the Fox network. I imagine ingenues running around Collinwood in slips as Vicki, Maggie, and Carolyn. Joan Collins will be brought in to play Liz, and a special line in the budget will cover the gauze filters for her camera close-ups. Quentin and Barnabas will routinely appear shirtless, both sporting rippling gym physiques (nice 6-pack for a 200 year old vampire, Barn) giving Chris Jennings a huge run for his money. He'll compensate by appearing at least once a month in an International Male g-string (OK, Steve, NOW you're in the realm of fantasy).

I already hate it. And they haven't even submitted a script!

I *guess* the release of the show on DVD is good news, though the thought of buying them all over again is enough to make my tarshes wilt.

TTFN, Steve

Well, at least Fox has the DREADFUL lighting down;
half the time I can't see anything on X-Files.

Joan Collins....as Joan Bennett, oyevah.
You're right about the "glam guys"; but, what's his face from that recent movie:
"I see DEAD PEOPLE", well, there ya go!
Buffy could make an occassional "walk in"...
(The guy from Buffy, I don't watch it, but, he'd make a good fill in for :) T. Elliot Stokes, n'est pas?)
Not a replacement though.
Why doesn't DC read some of the terrific fan fic and go from there?

Am I the only one THRILLED to hear this? I think it wonderful news. Fox Network is also bringing us the best new show of the year, 24. I think Fox would be much more likely to give the show a chance and not cancel it fifteen minutes into the first show. I still feel sad that I missed so much of the 2nd go-round for Dark Shadows. I loved the couple of shows I saw, but at the time was married to someone who groused through the whole thing. I just gave up on watching it. In looking back, the show would have been a better choice.

My guess is that they may use some of the rescent (within the past three years) novels or perhaps the new one yet to be written by Ms. Parker as the basis for a storyline. However, the fan fiction idea is interesting... VAM

What I would like to see is DC telling storylines that we never saw on either of the previous DS shows. Rather than try to pass off imitation Elizabeth's and Barnabas's in an attempt to recreate the original series, why not show us a 1920 or 1861 flashback? That way, we could avoid the problem of finding a new cast for our favorite characters by meeting entirely new characters. (Elizabeth as a child, the ruling family between 1840 and 1897.)

Still, the news of a potential remake is intriguing. Thanks for sharing the update, MsCriseyde!

I think there's not a chance of DC using any fan fiction of any of the book ideas. He usually has his own ideas for his characters and series and will probably launch from there.

While the idea of doing a show in other times is interesting, where would Barnabas fit into it? Since he wasn't let out until 1967, they probably wouldn't go that route. Also, period shows are much more expensive to produce and aren't part of the successful network schedule. (That 70's show doesn't count- it's a sitcom.)

Honestly, any new DS is a good idea- it brings in a new audience, brings added publicity and awareness to the original series and revitalizes what's a fairly dead franchise. (Compare it to Star Trek or DR. Who as far as products, spinoffs and popularity- there is no comparison.)

Any fresh spin on the material could be interesting. There's always the original series to turn to for the die-hards. Since it's a new series, the characters could be approached in any which way. I'm pretty sure we're looking at another adaptation of the first 45 pages of HODS, though as in the 91 series. Given a new cast and totally different look and milieu, it could be quite fun!

Hopefully Fox will like the script and commission the pilot!

I wonder what the storyline is? I'd prefer if they had it now and reflected back on what happened to the folks from the 70s. . Perhaps referring to Barnabas and Julia now living in London, married for 30 years and happily away from the 'fray' of Collinwood. . .ahh perchance to dream. . .Perhaps their 'son' (by divine miracle or julia's own fine doctoring of herself), also named Barnabas could come back to Collinwood. . .he should have auburn hair of course!
