Brannigan (1975) with KLS
« on: July 11, 2008, 09:56:31 PM »
Turner Classic Movies will show Brannigan next Tues. at 2:30 PM, I think that's the 15th. It features Kathryn Leigh Scott as Miss Allen. I think it's a very small part. The movie is a John Wayne cop/action movie.

Check it out.
May you die before you want too.

Describing it as a very small part would be generous - it's more like a blink and you'll miss her part.  ;)  Her name in the credits may even appear on screen longer than she actually does.  [lghy]  And if I remember correctly, she has two lines - and one of them is: "Hi." Though that being said, the cult of TLATKLS will eat it up.  :)

TLATKLS = The lovely and talented KLS. Our very own Gerard is a card carrying member. He may even be Vice President by now.  [ghost_wink]  RingoCollins was President, but he hasn't posted in a while (we miss you, Ringo!) so, who knows, he may have turned the reigns of the Presidency over to Gerard.  [ghost_grin]

And just to get back to KLS' part in the film, remember, there are no small parts, only small actors...

But ya gotta give Kathryn credit.
She did this film, & many others, during her European
years of the 1970s.
When she left DS, she was told she'd never work again, but she worked
A LOT,
Somtimes in walk-ons, but she also had nice roles in
The Great Gatsby (1974), Providence (1977) and even worked for Hammer Films once!

Well, she was told by DC that she would never work again, so let's consider the source.  [lghy]  ::)  And especially that DC had his own agenda going, namely trying to prevent her from leaving with Ben.

And as I said, in acting there's no such thing as a small part.  :)  I just didn't want any but the most devoted of KLS' fans (the cult of TLATKLS) to possibly look forward to something that may not be worth their energies.  ;)

And to that end for those who didn't bother, here's a screen capture of one of her more memorable seconds from the Pan & Scan version of the film:

Simon Oakland, who was standing on the right side of the shot gets completely cut off there save for the tip of his nose, so KLS was really lucky she was standing in the middle or she might have been heard but not seen.  [ghost_wink]

And let's not forget Kathryn's long run on the London stage with James Stewart in a revival of Harvey.
And I believe Jimmy hand picked her for that role.

Not bad, for somone who was never going to work again, LOL!

Then it's no wonder that when DS fan Kosmo asked her about the role a few years ago, she told him she wasn't even sure she ended up on camera, so he and other fans nearby reassured her that she in fact did.  Kosmo adds: "She said John Wayne was wonderful to work with, but she was horrified to see he was still smoking cigarettes in spite of his well-publicized battle with cancer."
