Glimpse of the New DS Fandom
« on: October 31, 2019, 10:13:42 PM »
This is interesting to read as a glimpse of the new DS fandom, the youngsters who are discovering the show on a certain popular retail network's streaming service:

References and comparisons to Riverdale, Instagram, etc. help patch together a picture of the cultural context new viewers bring to our show. It's intriguing to me that against all apparent odds, they still feel the fascination and find the addiction.

This fandom, which is growing, can be found on social media and the occasional blog such as this one.

Yeah, I've mentioned that I was surprised by how much activity there is on twitter from new fans. Several seem to have discovered the show via Decades, which surprises me because that network doesn't exactly seem like something that would appeal to that age group. But maybe it's not the network but simply DS that holds an appeal...

Though who knows what will happen with those fans now that Decades won't be moving forward with 1968 and will instead be starting up again with Barnabas' release all over again? Though a good thing is that DS is available with an Amazon Prime membership. So perhaps Decades viewers can move forward via Amazon...

I have to say that this recent resurgence of DS fandom really tickles me. It's so unexpected, but very gratifying. Sort of like it validates my own interest in DS. [hall2_wink] I can only hope that it gives support to the efforts to bring the new TV project to fruition!

My favorite line of this article is that the show is "simultaneously undemanding and riveting." I couldn't have put it better myself. This is part of what continues to draw me back to the show, other than actually being a fan of the show since I was a kid. I like that you can just watch a handful of episodes without having to pay attention to every detail and that the episodes fly by because they are so short.

I'm glad to see that there is a steady influx of fans to the brand, and that over time DS has continued to stay relevant in some capacity because of this. It never hurts to have this on streaming services, and as long as it continues to be on Prime and Hulu, the show will continue to be discovered.

There would be a "new blood" of DS fandom if you-know-who had loosened up the purse strings.  Scour the internet for any infraction and call out the armies of lawyers.  Guess this dumbbell doesn't know a thing about free publicity.  What did he do before?  Work for Pan-Am and Eastern in marketing?
