I believe Jim will also have planned one of those one-day events in California next year, but not a full-blown festival. No doubt Jim was trying to do something different and in no way did he indicate the cruise was the final festival/event. I don't think there is any question that attendance will be far lower for the cruise than for regular festivals. Rather than thousands, there will probably only be hundreds. The feedback that I'm seeing on this board and also from my DS Facebook friends is that many die-hard regular fest goers will be passing on the cruise. I do wonder what that means for it actually happening. I wonder what the minimum number must be.

Calendar Events / Announcements '12 II / Re: I Interviewed Donna McKechnie

David, I interviewed Donna in 2001 in her apartment on the Upper West Side of Manhattan for a profile I did on her life and career. She is just the nicest person you could meet. She is also enormously talented. I'm looking forward to your piece. P.S. She hasn't aged either!

Current Talk '24 I / Re: hoDS/NoDS DVD Release?

Darren, I just want to add to everyone else's sentiments and say how disappointed I am, especially after your years of hard work. I have heard you make at least three presentations at Festivals over the years. For what's it worth, I would never buy these versions, which I already own on VHS. This is a major disappointment and perhaps most insulting is that it is a reversal of what we were told - that the Depp film would finally spur the release of the restoration of Night of Dark Shadows. If not now, never, I regret to say.

Thanks again, Bob. I wonder how many people on this board recognize the name Wayne Garrett. Not exactly a Dark Shadows figure!

This was my fourth appearance as a guest on Coast to Coast AM, three times as a Dark Shadows author and once for my Roswell book. When I was asked to do the show regarding the upcoming movie, I suggested having Kathryn on with me. She was, of course, wonderful. I have been inactive on these boards due to work commitments and had intended to post the notice for the Coast to Coast show last week. Thanks to Bob for posting the notice. Below is a link for those who would like to hear the show for free. Kathryn and I are on the first two hours.

I'm so happy the Fest is coming home to NYC. Brooklyn is the best possible location outside of Manhattan. The Marriott is also very close to my home. I'm also excited about seeing Sharon Smyth for the first time since my very first Festival in 1999. Thank God we're not going to Newark!

« on: January 06, 2011, 04:14:39 PM »
I agree with Charles and everyone else who dreads having the Fest in Newark. I have attended festivals in eight different locations, and Newark was by far the worst. I live in NYC, so it was only a half hour drive. The problem with Newark was two-fold. First, it is extremely difficult to find, even for a New Yorker who is familiar with the area. I made a few wrong turns, delaying me about a half hour. Furthermore, I heard horror story after horror story from people who were driving from other states, many of whom got lost for up to two hours. If this was an isolated incident, I would call it an anecdote. But I heard this from several people. One couple was stranded in an awful neighborhood and had to be guided to Newark by a Good Samaritan in his car.

The second problem with Newark, as others have mentioned, is that nothing is conveniently reachable. Not restaurants nor sidewalk hot dog vendors. Traveling to Manhattan is not realistic nor convenient. Tarrytown is fine. Brooklyn is preferable because it's a short subway ride to Manhattan, there are many places within walking distance, and for me, it's almost a short walk from home.

Unfortunately because of cost, I don't believe Jim will have it in Manhattan. I do hope that he has gotten sufficient feedback that no one wants it in Newark. We will see.

do you have a website?

I don't have a personal website. My publisher has a page for my Dark Shadows book:

In New York, Coast to Coast is on live on WOR 710 Friday nights beginning at 1am (technically Saturday morning). I don't think it's replayed. If you miss the show, I think it can only be heard on their website stream thereafter.

I'm happy to inform everyone that I will be doing the Coast to Coast AM radio show tomorrow night (Friday the 18th). I will be on the first two hours talking about my book, "The Physics of Dark Shadows," as well as all things concerning time travel, ESP, and of course, Dark Shadows. I have been asked to do the show because of the upcoming Festival, which is in four weeks.

Many of you may recall that I did Coast to Coast two years ago upon the release of my book and to promote the Burbank Fest of 2008. Indeed, many of you listened to the show and commented on my appearance. I'm very excited to do it again.

For those who are unfamiliar, Coast to Coast AM is an American-based but international show on the paranormal. It airs very late - for me it will be 1am New York time. For those on the west coast, it will be 10pm Friday night. The link below will help you find your local affiliate that airs the show.

I hope you all can listen and enjoy. And I hope to see you at the Fest, too.

Current Talk '10 I / Re: Time Travel??
« on: April 14, 2010, 01:34:06 PM »
As I explain in my book, “The Physics of Dark Shadows,” my choice would be Quentin’s staircase, which I explain is the most realistic method scientifically to travel through time (at least to the past), in that wormholes through spacetime can exist mere inches away and do not violate the laws of physics.

With the staircase (wormhole), a person can travel both through time and space at great distances by traveling through a shortcut method. This would be like walking across a temporary bridge from the top of one skyscraper to another, instead of taking the long way by traveling by elevator to the ground floor, crossing the street, and then going up the other skyscraper’s elevator. By Einstein’s theory, space and time are linked, so when you traverse space, you also traverse time.

Two things about Marcy's email. First of all, there is nothing on the Fest website that indicates that payment shouldn't be sent before April 20th, as Marcy states. So unless you happen to be on her email list, you wouldn't know that. No doubt payments are already being sent.

Second, the Fest website lists 13 actor-guests. Marcy lists only 12. The one she left out? ... Roger Davis.

Current Talk '05 II / Re: The 2004 WB Pilot
« on: March 01, 2010, 05:36:06 PM »
For the life of me, I can't imagine why they would want to fix up and release the 2004 pilot, a show that never made it on the air, and that doesn't stand alone as its own movie. I've seen it shown at the festivals. Since the show never continued, the pilot is a mere curiosity to DS fans, not a marketable product.

Calendar Events / Announcements '09 II / Re: RIP Conard Fowkes
« on: December 18, 2009, 06:57:17 PM »
I must add that I am absolutely shocked at the death of Conard Fowkes. When I met him at the 2006 Fest in Brooklyn, he was remarkably youthful-looking, vigorous, and appeared to be in great health. He looked like he was in his late 50's. It is hard to believe that he is 76. I have a couple of excellent photos of Conard from that Fest. If I can scan them, I'll try and post them here.

Normally, I'm saddened but not shocked when another DS cast member passes, but I confess that this one really hit me by surprise.

Current Talk '09 II / Re: Regarding the '91 Series DVD Set?
« on: December 04, 2009, 01:28:55 PM »
The 1991 series is run constantly (a few times a year, at least) on the Chiller channel, 257 on DirecTV. Don't know which version they run; I assume it's the original NBC version.
