Sorry everybody, but I just was never a fan of Parallel Time in 1970.

I hated 1970 PT for the following reasons:

1.Because most of my beloved characters were gone for most of the storyline.

2.I didn't like the storylines  (the Jekyll/Hyde and Rebecca subplots).

3.Seeing Quentin act like such a grade-A prick and treat Maggie lower than dirt.

Now I wasn't expecting to like 1841 PT after being disappointed with 1970 PT but surprising enough I did. I am glad that Jonathan got a chance to play another character, totally different from Barnabas. And I loved his pairing with Lara as Catharine.....and of course I loved John and Nancy as Kendrick and Melanie (they are soooo cute together no matter who they played). Plus the lottery storyline I found fascinating.

And I know many didn't like the Morgan character (even those who do like 1841PT) or Keith Prentice but I thought he did very well in the role.

But who could resist Hoffman, the housekeeper who gave Dame Judith Anderson a run for her money in the "cold, calculated sneer" department?

And Aunt Hannah, with her Psychedelic Witch-a-rama wardrobe?

And Angelexis, in HER Peter Max on acid wardrobe?

And Bruno, who gave new meaning to the concept of Big Hair?

And that orange sports-coat of Quentin's that seemed to have a life of its own?

And PT Roger, who suggested the obscene lovechild of Addison de Wit and Clfiton Webb?

I could go on, but I'll spare those of you who AREN'T fans of this fabulous storyline...

Oh no please, do go on. Just because I didn't like 1970 PT I don't want others who did like it to be discouraged from talking about what they love about it.

So rave on, Gothick! [knockwood]

I'm totally w/ya ILB, and for the same reasons.  I, like you, DID like 1841 PT as well, hell, I LOVED it!  And although I didn't like Morgan, I *adored* Keith Prentice, who wouldn't, he was GGGGGGGGORGEOUS!   ;D  I also enjoyed seeing JF in a different, and, shall I say it, SEXY role and his pairing w/Lara as Catherine just puts the icing on the cake.  I also enjoyed Nancy and Johnny together, they had great chemistry!  It's no wonder you liked the plotline, seeing as it was a combination of 2 fabulous stories.  Wuthering Heights and Shirley Jackson's The Lottery.  You have exceptional taste!  ;)

Preach on brother!  Although I did not like this plotline one bit, the things you mention I did like about it.  ;)

Thanks Buzz! You're too kind. [knockwood]

I must confess I never read Wuthering Heights or The Lottery, but now I think I'd be interested in reading them.

Buzz, if you're talking about the short story "The Lottery" by Shirley Jackson(?), it's one of my FAVORITE of ALL TIME, and ILB, you MUST read it.

And Bruno DEFINITELY gave new meaning to the words "BIG HAIR". Flap it in the wind! (On a side note: It's a good thing he didn't have any love scenes with Roger Davis *snigger*)

Advice to anyone who enjoys these stotylines that were pulled from the Curtis rolodex.... don't read the books or see the films they came from, unless you can stand to have these storylines ruined for you, or unless you have reason to believe that your suspension-of-disbelief isn't damaged by things like that.

I don't either! We can go together if that's the case!

Nancy

If I point out that I've never owned 10 seconds of the show, on ANY format, will I be summarily drummed out of the forum?

Here is a link where you can read it online.

I hope this works. If not, google it.

When I first read this story in high school it haunted me for days. I don't think the DS version is very similar at all, except for the fact that
in both stories it was NOT a good thing to win the lottery!
