He definitely deserves the honor as his work is often quite exceptional. But the thing that I find odd about some of the reports is that they make it seems as if he's never won an Oscar for his work. But he has. He won an Oscar back in 1984 for Amadeus.

And I wouldn't be surprised if some of the people writing these reports weren't even born in 1984, so anything that happened back then is ancient history to them and not worth reporting.
