I bought a CD at the Half Price Books chain. They specialize in second hand books, but also sell overstocks of new items like the Pulse Audio CD I purchased. It's entitled Science Ficition: Volume One.  The second story "Building B-2000" uses Cobert's music as its score. I think it's actually the music from House of Dark Shadows. The liner notes reveal it to be a Jim French Production. The stories aren't bad and are worth the $1.98 I paid for the disc.

So Quentin and Liz....together?? OK...that means, if they are involved in a romantic way, Quentin will be having an affair with his..great niece..???  YUCK....but then again it's a messed up family... Roger married his grandma..

Mine arrived the other day as well. If they could get the human likenesses as perfectly they'd be worth twice the cost.

Yes it is too bad. I used to be a fixture at the DS Festivals, but since I moved to Texas, I can't afford to go very often. Having the videos is a way to feel almost as if I were there. I still get a tad down the weekend of a Fest when I'm not in attendance. With luck, I'll be at the next one. I'm trying to go to all the five year milestones, with the next one being the 45th(???!!!!) anniversary. It would be nice to be a small part of the others I can't attend. Now they'll probably ban video recording altogether.

While I am anticipating a new movie, I'm more excited about the audio dramas. These feature the original cast and are more important to me than any new remake. I am intrigued at the prospect of Depp as Barnabas, but I'm not going to be terribly disappointed if it doesn't happen.I have a feeling we'll hear about it being in production soon if it's going to become  reality at all.

Calendar Events / Announcements '10 II / Kingdom of the Dead
« on: August 04, 2010, 05:31:11 PM »
I'm curious about what other members of this board thought of the new season of DS audio dramas, Kingdom of the Dead.

1.  Describe your reaction to Alec Newman as
David. Were you excited at the prospet? I was.  From the beginning I felt that he was the easiest to recast. We've never seen him at a festival or on TV since DS. I thought Jamison Selby would have been great as David as well. After all he's Selby's son and named for one of David's characters.  It's great to have Alec involved in DS in a major way.
2 How does David Warner stack up as a major DS villain? I've always been impressed with him. In fact, I prefer the Sapphire and Steel audio series to the TV series.

3 What about Susan?
Do you think they should bring her back? I have mixed feelings about this. I love the actress and would love to have her back. I'm not sure if bringing Susan back would be a great idea. We have her tragic death, undoing that might cheapen the story. I'm willing to keep an open mind though. She's a great addition to the DS lore.
4
Reactions to the cliffhanger!?!!!
I got mine yesterday, or rather, it was waiting for me when I returned from vacation. It had been sitting there for some time, judging from how much mail was piled on top of it. I didn't get the magnet :( but I loved the music! I've not heard the last half of the second disk yet, though.

I agree with the concensus that seems to be growing on this thread; the cuts are manly reworking familiar pieces, but they are done well and are effective. It's refreshing to have this familiar tie to the original. With all new players, it serves as a reminder that this is DS.

Justin Collins was played by David Hurst. You may remember him as Ambassador Hodin in the HORRIBLE Star Trek ep "The Mark of Gideon". Hodin was the ambassador who refused to let the Enterprise send a search party to find Kirk. He was being held on a replica of the Enterprise that was so perfect it fooled him!!!  Hurst is the only person I can think of who was in the Classic Trek TV series and DS. Philip R. Allen did the opposite. He was in DS and then made his way to Classic Trek in ST III- The Search for Spock. He played a cop or something in PT. David Hurst was the father of Quentin, Gabrial, and Morgan in 1841 PT.

With regard to Vickie and her constantly mistaking 1795 characters for her present day friends, Matthew is the one that's the least surprising. Think about it. He kidnapped her and terrorized her for days (weeks?).  Seeing Ben probably triggered a flashback. It's the fact that she continued this with everyone that made her seem a bit thick, I think.

I wonder if Nancy Barrett asked to leave suddenly, and the script was already written?  It could also be that they wanted to make certain that the audience, who might not tune in for several days, knew what was going on. I'd have to see the episodes again before I had any confidence in these suggestions. Those are the thoughts I have as of now, having not watched 1795 in a while.

Vickie may have seen Prof. Stokes as resembling Ben, but she thought Ben was Matthew when she first met him. If A=B and B=C, then A SHOULD =C as well. The family was probably used to lookalikes living in Collinsport all their lives, or they were too polite to notice.

I really should add that I meant to finish the series. My daughter and I were watching it regularly, but then we got out of the habit of watching around Christmas one year. We meant to go back to it, but never did. Had we not  been interupted, we probably would have finished. We were up to somewhere around ep 130 of the  195 or so they made. I probably will go back and finish it some day.

It's VERY SLOW, but I got through the first arc of 65 eps or so on the island. When they switched locales and changed a large segment of the cast, I gave up on it. I might go back and finish it though. I think you can watch the first 13 weeks or so, get a feel for the best of the show and then bail without being left hanging. I think they were half expecting to be cancelled after the first 3 months, so they were wrapping things up fairly neatly.

Not a problem, but according to his original quote, it seems he was speaking about 3 unaired eps of Logan's Run.

There are no unaired eps of the '91 series.

Yes, I was referring to Logan's Run. Allegedly, Turnabout, Night Terrors, and Stargate were not aired.  I had Turnabout on VHS, so I know that aired SOMEWHERE, but it may have been Canada. Someone else told me that one she had seen Turnabout as well, but she lived in Buffalo. Again, maybe a Canadian broadcast. There are often disputes over unaired eps.  Planet of the Apes SUPPOSEDLY did not air The Liberator, but I saw it, AND a friend who kept a diary of the show had an entry for it complete with an accurrate plot summary and cast list. But to emphasize, no episodes of '91 DS were unaired.

This is something that should have been released 15 years ago.

I agree with you BUT it's fairly timely when compared to the soundtrack that came out a few years ago. Logan's Run, the TV series aired in '77? or was it '78? They released a soundtrack for it a few years back!!!  It ran about the same amount of time as DS '91- 14 eps in this case. 11 that aired for sure, and up to 3 that did not. There's a debate about the "unaired" ones.
