Classic Dark Shadows revisited article
« on: February 24, 2005, 01:18:27 PM »
Glad to see that the classic DS is still in the news in 2005. Thankfully, there was no mention of the WB fiasco which keeps the legacy in place. If this link does not work the article is in the dailytexanonline entertainment section 2/24/2005.

You should know about ...'Dark Shadows'

What a great article, jimbo - thanks for the link. It's always wonderful when a piece is written by someone who actually understands DS' appeal and what makes the show so special.  :)

Thanks MB,PD and Ian.

I too was presently surprised that the author of this article truly understands the legacy of Dark Shadows and its significance in TV history. I thought he did a good job of providing an accurate and unbiased overview of the show's history and how and why it sucked in millions of loyal viewers on a daily basis.
It appears this writer is a Dark Shadows "purist" as he did not bring up the 1991 revival series or last years revival attempt. I was also happy to see Marie Wallace pictured on the same page with Jonathan Frid representing the classic series-it is not to often you see Marie almost as a lead character.

Very nice!  My one little quibble was with

"As a result, their performances were often stiff, and mistakes, especially among the show's child actors, were commonplace. "

I would say that for the most part thie children hardly ever made mistakes, whereas almost all the adults did, sometimes frequently.

The author may have been referring to the flubs David Henesy and particularly Sharon Smyth made during the pre-1968 period. Henesy made much fewer than Smyth (OK, let's face it - FAR fewer  ;)), but during that period the adults didn't flub as much as they might have in later years when the pacing and logistics of producing the show was much more hectic.
