Gothick, Charlton was located in the next town over from me, the literary capital known as Derby, Connecticut. (Insert sarcasm). They were a minor player in the comics industry. Most of the vintage horror that they published had been purchased from other comics companies that had gone out of business.
Charlton specialized in knockoffs of other properties. Such as Timmy The Timid Ghost, which was a clone of Casper. They were printing a My Little Margie book a good ten years after the show had been cancelled. And Yeah Yeah Yeah Bratles stories in the early 1970's.
What made Charlton unique was that everything was done in the Derby office. They even had their own printing press. The press was going almost 24/7, with the comics, Hit Parader magazine and a fair amount of porn. The executives got themselves into a fair amount of trouble with the porn. I suspect that that the comics were a way of money laundering.
My dad worked for another of Charlton's subsidiaries. He brought some of the books home for me once. The comics, not the porn. I remember thinking that they were inferior to what I was reading at the time. Even the paper was second rate.
