All My Children/One Life To Live Saved (for real)
« on: July 07, 2011, 08:36:39 PM »
New York Post & Soap Central are reporting that a production company called Prospect Park has licensed AMC & OLTL from ABC: both shows will continue with new eps online at a yet to be announced website that will feature other programming.

I've long believed that the audience for these shows was quite larger than outdated AC Neilsen reports: that half the audience was already watching online.
It's not soaps that are dying: it's broadcast TV, period.

No less than ABC News has confirmed the story.

The story is true - it's being reported all over the place. Or I should say all over in reputable places.  [ghost_wink]

Funny - soaps started on radio, then made the move to TV - so maybe moving to the Internet is the next logical step...

On one of the Star Trek series' (I think it was Voyager), they said that television as an entertainment/information resource had vanished as a medium around 2050.  They just might've predicted that right.

Conversation line expressed by someone around 2045 (my prediction):  "You still have television?  Get with the times!  I'll bet you still even have a cellphone."

This is good news for fans of both soaps. Personally, I don't watch them. I only watch General Hospital, but if Katie Couric kills that then hopefully the same fate is waiting for it!

Probably a dumb question...but if they're online (and boy, do I hope they are!!), how will the actors be paid?

Citing an inability to raise funds or to sign on cast members, Prospect Park Productions has scrapped plans to re-launch All My Children online and cable in 2012.

All My Children featured Grayson Hall in 1974, plus a 16 year, Emmy nominated run by Louis Edmonds. Clarice Blackburn
actually won an Emmy for her writing work on the series.

Prospect Park is moving forward with it's plans to keep One Life to Live alive, with 13 core cast members signed on.

Soapnet is now airing late night AMC reruns, with eps from 2006, but when Soapnet goes dark in Jan, all that will be left of AMC are You Tube clips.
Bye, Erica.
