I completely understand your wanting to keep the smileys close by-- you're certainly not alone in that-- but instead of keeping them above your posts maybe you'll let me email the list to you? You wouldn't be able to click on them like you're used to doing, but you could print them out to keep near your computer. And then you'd have easy access to ALL the emoticons instead of 16. Just say the word... or maybe someone can come up with an idea that might work better for you, but please don't think there's no other solution than for you to leave.
