Hey y'all, [wavey]
I'm trying to learn how to do webpages without using AOL's online editor and being stuck with AOL HOMETOWN banners (ugh). I've started simple and am attempting to post a story I started writing a couple of years ago, and am still writing - Divine Awakening. It's sort of a different type of story about Quentin, Barnabas and Julia.
I've posted the first four chapters. If anyone would like to read it, I'd appreciate any type of feedback. (Like, should I continue posting more chapters - lol). I haven't figured out how to put a feedback thing or email link on there yet (duh)...so if you have any comments, could you IM me here, or email me at BeamOfLite@aol.com??
Here's the link: http://members.aol.com/superevan/page1.html
(gotta use my son's webspace 'cause mine's just about used up) lol
Thanks ;D

Disclaimer: (excuses...excuses)
This is my first story, sooo...bear in mind that the writing tends to kind of change, evolve, whatever, over the continuing chapters. Also, the formatting - shall we say "a bit inconsistent" ??
-
hey connie really enjoyed your story it was fun to read
about those three having fun!
keep up the good work looking foward to more!
jennifer
-
Hey Connie! I'm just printing out your story to read over my lunch break, but it looks fab!
Please do continue! If I have any more specific feedback, I guess I'll send you a private message about it. Love the dialogue, though!
Steve
-
Well, dear, I just read the first 4 chapters (all that you've made available thus far, you sly minx!) and I'm riveted.
This is a delight ... both exquisitely suspenseful, yet laced with the kind of sophisticated wit that you'd expect this crew to have developed after their experiences of the 1960's and beyond.
I of course particularly enjoy how you portray Julia, but your way of viewing the boys is a treat, too. Your descriptions of Quentin, his thoughts, the scruffiness of his life, his laundry, etc. are masterful!
What else can I say but ... MORE! MORE! MORE!
Happy Holidays,
Steve
-
Yes Connie, you should definitely post more chapters! I'm excited to see where this story will go, and intrigued by what's going on between the characters already.
It's an easy read, it seems to just flow right along. What you've done in terms of description and characterization helps me to sort of see everything as it's happening. There are so many different paths this story could take - looking forward to the one you choose!
Keep up the good work! [thumb]

Oh, please do continue it! And let us know when there's more. You can't leave us hanging like this, and I love the ease with which you write for the 3 characters. Brava!
-
Anyone who is reading this story is in for a treat. Dear Connie has many more chapters written for your reading pleasure. She is a fantastic writer as you will see.
I haven't read the beginning of Divine Awakening in a long time but, let me tell you, it only GETS BETTER!!!
The friendship between Barnabas, Julia and Quentin will take many twists and turns.
Fasten your seat belts, it'll be a bumpy ride as Betty Davis said in All About Eve.
-
I expect to see a montage, fully illustrating this piece, when you're done. The imagery in the story is already staggering; enhanced by your usual visuals, I can foresee death by laughter.

Well now you've gone and done it! Your chapters so far are very good and now we're not going to give you any peace until you write more!!!! You are a gal of many talents m'dear![/color]

Thank you for sharing :)

Oh goody! I'm glad y'all like reading it and want more. I've posted the next two chapters. I'll be able to post them faster as soon as I get the hang of it. (Still having some formatting problems to sort out).
Thanks for the nice comments!

Just printed out the two new chapters and can't wait to read them! Something to look forward to for my lunch break. Thanks for sharing this wonderful tale.

Just have to report that the two new chapters continue the delightful zest of this wonderfully refreshing tale.
I have to say I love Barnabas in Galloping Gourmet mode. Fettucine Alfredo? Pancakes, no doubt with fresh sliced fruit? What's next? Canapes and stuffed olives? I'd love to see a scene where a harried Barn on a short fuse is working on party hors d'oeuvres and supervising Willie who's having a hideous time with an olive-pitter. Oh Lordee.

Connie, I have been reading "Divine Awakening" for about a year. And yes...it' s a great story. Please..continue.
-
Okay...I've posted up through Chapter 9.
;D
-CLC
Note: Nothing much is held back in this story. The characters' thoughts, feelings, emotions, and actions are pretty much laid out on the table. I know there are some young people on here for whom parts of the story may not be appropriate. If descriptions of physical intimacy between two men bother you in any way, skip the second half of Chapter 8. :)

oh my, my,Connie i never knew old Barny had private parts!

Any and all comments are appreciated. :)

Note: The last quarter of chapter 13 is quite raunchy. Maybe I'm old fashioned, but I really don't think it's suitable for anyone under 18. (Only my humble opinion of course)

Very good chapters Connie...[wow] I wonder how this will all finalize itself.. who gets Quentin?
Your devoted reader...

My thoughts on chapters 14 and 15? AAaawwWW
Quentin is such a wonderfully sweet guy! I can understand
why Barnabas would want to hold him so.
My advice to Quentin is.... "Choose Barnabas" :-*
-
Nah Quentin Choose Julia
jennifer
and Barnabas as the Bulter love how he cleans need one of him myself!
a friend of mine told me to watch the Nanny a few years ago because Frid played the butler, put it on was so disappointed!

Chapters 16 & 17 are posted.

It's taking awhile because I CANNOT get the chapters to format right when I cut and paste them from MS Word. I have to go through and indent everything on the webpage. What a pain. :-/
-
The next two chapters have been posted. If no one's reading the story, I'll stop posting it and experiment with other webpage stuff. I'm learning some HTML things! I got a couple of books from the library (like HTML For Dummies) lol, and I figured out how to put a feedback form on the first page!! (Well, I think it's nifty.) It seems to work. If you're reading the story at all, send me some feedback -- whatever you feel like. It can be anonymous.
You can access the latest chapters from the first page:

Let me know if you want me to continue.
Thanks

Hi Connie, I'm definitely still reading the story, though I am behind by a few chapters, due to the fact that I was pretty much offline for 2 weeks, and I have cartloads of work to catch up with.
Today over lunch I read the chapter where Julia had realized she needed to perform the surgery on Quentin's bullet herself. I smiled to read about Barnabas' newfound appreciation for housework. I imagine him putting on a big frilly apron to protect those expensive suits he always wore around the house in the Sixties.

i''m reading it too Connie and i am enjoying the trio!

Gosh! I'm so sorry it is a pain applying your wonderful story on line... chapters 16 and 17 were superb! I am still hoping Quentin will pick Barnabas.
Perhaps Barnabas and Julia can share Quentin?
Joint custody of Quentin....
I love win win situations! :D

Hey Sarah I like your solution to the "problem"! I think Q, B & J would make a great threesome! Maybe not traditionally, but, hey, what about these three is?
They all care so much about one another and are so fond of one another. I think it would be the ideal solution.
And I wanna be a fly on the wall when Roger and Liz discuss the matter.
LIZ: We will simply have to pretend that Quentin is staying with Barnabas and Julia to help them with their history project ... I mean, their scientific research into reanimated corpses ... I mean, their study of exorcism techniques among the rich and famous ... I mean--
ROGER: Oh, shut up, Liz!

Hi, Connie [wavey] [wavey] Loved your story
about The Q-man !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wish i was with him on that beach !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And he unbuttoned his shirt YUMMY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Love Anne
:P :P :P

Wow, Connie, this story is turning into a REAL roller coaster ride. And I'm loving every minute of it.
The illos in 20 and 21 are beautiful. The image of Quentin in 1975 is fabulous. And I adore the painting. Is it your own work?
Your fan, Steve
-
And I adore the painting. Is it your own work?
Hi Steve,
I'm so glad you're enjoying the story.
Nope -- the painting's not mine. (I have no artistic ability whatsoever - lol) I took a small portion of a painting - I don't even know what it was - and I messed around with it and changed it.
Chapters 22 & 23 have been posted.
*Chapter 23 contains graphic sex. M/M*
Note: Way back when I was writing this, and decided this was going to happen between the two of them, I searched the web for written examples of two men making love. I couldn't find any. All I came across were trashy, foul depictions of gay sex -- never a mention of the word "love", never any feelings or emotions. Soooo... I had no guidelines, particularly since this was a rather unusual situation - two heterosexual men who happen to have deep feelings for each other. Then I figured, well, it didn't matter really, because THEY didn't know any more about it than I did. LOL
Anyway, I didn't want it to be tawdry, gratuitous or cheap in any way. BUT, at the same time, I wanted it to be realistic, descriptive and moving (hopefully). I love these characters and try to immerse myself in them as much as possible.
This is the way it came out. It was the only way I could see it and I tried to make it as tasteful as possible.
So anyway, consider yourselves warned. If this sort of thing is not your cup of tea, skip Chapter 23 entirely.

Well, Chapters 24 & 25 have been posted.
(Includes the night of the full moon).
Since this got thrown into the archives, and I haven't gotten any feedback, that'll be it. If anyone wants the rest of the story so far, email me and I'll zip it and send it to you.

I've been following Connie's story since her very first chapter and she has me hooked! I always look forward to her next chapter. Btw, Connie, I haven't seen one posted in several weeks. I've been anxious to see how Julia solves her latest dilemma. [wink2]
