Title: Once Again, Moment-of-Silence Day
Post by: Gerard on April 03, 2015, 02:26:28 AM
The sad anniversary is with us - 44 years ago it ended.  I rushed home at top speed from Washington Jr. High School so as not to miss a minute.  As the final credits rolled, I cried.  This had been a part of my life since June 0f 1966.  The characters felt like family.  On the following Monday, hoping beyond hope that ABC had changed its mind, I turned the TV back on but it was gone.  There was Password.  We still had plenty of outlets for our DS fixes:  the Marilyn Ross novels, the Gold Key comic books and, for those whose local press carried it, the comic strip (ours didn't).  There was still one more movie.  Se got close to an additional year of DS things, but it wasn't the same.

Don't you think that every year on April 5th all of television should go dark from 4 to 4:30pm ET/3 to 3:30pm CT (and whatever time DS aired in the MT and PT regions) in memoriam of the first horrifying Monday when we no longer had DS to tune in to watch?

You're so right, MB.  There should be that moment of darkness at 4:00 p.m. (3:00 central where I lived), when there was longer DS.  A full half-hour would be more appropriate.

Does anyone else here remember that final day?

The following article, in part, talks about the end of DS:

Dallas’ Premieres; ‘Dark Shadows’ and ‘ER’ Conclude (http://www.tvmediainsights.com/fun-stuff/dallas-premieres-dark-shadows-er-conclude/)

And if you scroll down the page, there are clips of "Classic Moments From Dark Shadows," which are really slideshows featuring stills and publicity shots from the show that are all shown out of context, so anyone who has never seen the show may question why many of them are "classic" - but it's still very nice that they've been included.

those "classic moments" are a bit heavy on Kathy Cody for my taste...

but it's nice to see Donna Freidlander and Leona Eltridge getting their due.  [snow_rolleyes]

I only watched one of the tribute clips. It wasn't bad, though the selection of stills was a bit odd at times. And, michaelc, a little Cody goes a LONG way. [snow_rolleyes]

Gerard, I remember that Friday so well. I didn't know how I was going to survive the rest of high school without my daily Dark Shadows.
