LOL I guess we'll never be rid of labels!  Our minds want to wrap around something, I suppose.  [joker]  In terms of Dark Shadows, I never thought of "first generation" as much as I thought of "original" fan.  Oh well.  [love7]

I hate labels too.  Maybe I should delete!! :) [ghost_tongue]
If you like DS and want to have a fun  on a Facebook page that is open to all forms of DS and doesn't allow childish behavior like some groups; come on over to DIAESD! You do have to ask to be invited and I will approve you.

I was 4 years old when the original series started in 1966. Would that make myself a 1st Generation
fan?

I rushed home from school during the original run.  It was syndicated here in 1977 and I tuned in again for that run.  I guess that is first and second generations.

I believe that makes you part of the Ö generation.

Ok, here's one to give everyone even MORE of a calculation headache  [nuts] (Norman, Coordinate, anyone?).  Not only are there generations of fans, but there are generations of when one became involved in FANDOM.  [wow]

For instance, I started watching the show as a kid with the Chris Jennings werewolf/beginning of the Ghosts of Quentin and Beth storylines.  That makes me an original "run home from school to watch" fan.  BUT, I got involved in Science Fiction and Media fandom startiing with discovering Star Trek zines in 1975 -- but didn't rediscover Dark Shadows until many years later.  In 2001 I was jobhunting and caught the show from the last ep, knowing that the next day would be the first episode.  By the time 1897 rolled around I had gone from "it'll be nice to see this from the beginning and see what I missed" to, at a certain point in the 1897 storyline, getting on line after watching the timeshifted eps, desperate to fiind more fanfiction and discussion groups.  [nerd]

Hmm, that might be an idea for its own thread.....

Pansity, based on my calculations, you are Generation Ü.

I first started watching the show around 1982 or 1983, I was 8 or 9 years old at the time.

I guess that makes me a part of the second generation.
