Judah is caught in the fire;Gerard escapes. Judah puts on the mask.
Julia is out of Judah's power and she gives speech about he was her life and nothing else mattered as in her obsession with Barnabas and Tom Jennings. Third time wasn't a charm with this plot. She and Barnabas talk  about changing history. Who resurrected and reattached the head before?
Roxanne pours over Barnabas' letter and Lamar arrives. she may go to the city to be  Professional woman. Yes there were so many opportunities in 1840. Lamar flatters her creepily and asks her to marry. Lamar talks to Barnabas and Julia about his upcoming nuptials and Barnabas is speechless and shocked his gray love would marry the morturer.
Gerard dreams of Judah who wants him to find it. Gerard enters the tomb and nothing appears to be charred by the fire including Judah with mask which Gerard removes and eyes are open on the head. Which makes one wonder how Julia is no longer a follower?
So, here we are well into the story and there are a host of characters that appear to have littlle to do with the main plot and are not seen for days on end that I Find more interesting than the main story which has also totally changed from Pirate Gerard and the Java Queen.
you know there's a whole wing that's closed off all the time; the west wing, I go there lots of times

Kaboom! Julia's impromptu operating theatre blows up, seemingly releasing Julia and Leticia from Judah's control. She and Barnabas find the body and conclude that it's dead because there was no pulse. It wasn't all that long ago when Julia determined it was alive even though there was no blood. It makes sense that Judah would have released her and Leticia to cover his tracks and avoid further suspicion. Barnabas and Julia are usually not so naive.
Gerard is anything but naive and it seems that Mr. J has a new home. Gerard is a much more morally questionable type and a much better match than the others. Silly dream sequence confirms this.
Roxanne wants to go somewhere and be one of those new professional women. How nice. She doesn't appear to have any real education and certainly would not become a doctor like Julia. Could she become a governess like Daphne or Maggie without any education anywhere else but Collinsport?
We haven't been in 1840 all that long and none of this stuff really has anything to do with why Julia and Barnabas time travelled. Focus!
