Change of Venue for Selby Play -- Slight Date Change too
« on: January 26, 2003, 08:46:42 PM »
David Selby's play, Final Assault, was scheduled to be the first performance in the Walker Theatre of the new Clay Center in Charleston, West Virginia.

On Saturday, the Charleston Gazette reported that the Clay Center, which was originally scheduled to open next month, will not be ready to open until May. Therefore, David's play will be moved to the Capitol Center Theatre, unless, of course, the Clay Center turns out to be ready in April.

I don't know why they wouldn't just hold off the opening of the play until the Center is ready.  He's still doing re-writes anyway.

Actually, at the moment, he's on location in Chicago filming scenes for Surviving Christmas.

And, if you've seen any new work being staged, then you know that rewrites are an option through the rehearsal process. And, if you know how neurotic some people are about perfecting their writing, then you know that it could even be rewritten after it's staged. (He's done it before.)

The whole thing involves the schedules of a lot of people. Charleston Stage Company has another production lined up following David's. Rescheduling for the Clay Center could force them into the position of having two shows in production at once, which would be a royal pain.

They've already blocked out the audition and rehearsal schedule, etc. It's much easier to move this into a venue that can accommodate it on the same dates than it is to reschedule it, especially since they already advertised a set of dates and people have purchased tickets and made travel plans (and I don't mean me).

Using the Clay Center for performances is now entirely out of the picture. All performances of Final Assault will be held at the West Virginia Stage College Capitol Center Theatre, where auditions are also being held this week.

Additional dates have been added for performances of Final Assault. Performances will now be held April 10-12 and 17-19 at 8:00pm.

With the addition of another weekend of shows, please note that performances are no longer scheduled for April 9 or April 13.

Another point requiring clarification: The original media releases indicated that David would be co-producing and co-directing with Jamison Selby and David Wohl. That is incorrect. David is the writer, Jamison Selby is the director, and David Wohl is the production coordinator.

And I am mistress of an evil web empire. [lghy]
