Barnabas & Kolchak comic book story
« on: September 17, 2008, 08:48:53 PM »
Looks like Mark Dawidziak's 'Kolchak meets Barnabas' story is being adapated for the comics with prominent guest billing for Mr. Collins on the cover.

According to this page it'll be out in November from Moonstone Comics:

What fun!  I was staying with a friend in Connecticut last weekend and she has a cable tier that includes something called "The Chiller Network," and we watched a recording she had made from it of House of DS, followed by some Kolchak episodes the following morning.  Excellent stuff!

I've had the Kolchak DVD set on my shopping list for years now.  I loved Ruth McDevitt's character on that show.

Someone's doing a comic book about our favorite defender of the fifth estate, Carl?  Cool!  And Kolchak and Vincenzo go on a road trip and their greatest threat is something other than each other?

It's legal to insert DS characters into comics?

LOL, Magnus.

There's a link in the following topic to purchase the collection ("The Night Stalker Chronicles") that contains the crossover story, if anyone is interested:

It's legal to insert DS characters into comics?

You can bet it's with permission.  Some, btw, might recall that the author hosted the pilot screening at the 2005 Fest.

I got my copy of the Kolchak/Dark Shadows crossover and I have to say, I was underwhelmed.  If you've not read the short story version already, you are in for a treat.  The story is fine.  The art is the problem.  I was willing to forgive them for making Willie look NOTHING like John Karlen.  I thought maybe it was a problem with likeness rights, and it may well have been.  Still it would have been nice if they had included a voice-over that stated "The part of Willie Loomis is being played by Ken Doll" or something.  Collinsport, Collinwood, the Old House, NOTHING looks anything like what we've seen on the show!  The artist only got Frid right some of the time.  It's such a shame that the artist did not care enough to research the show and portray some of the beloved settings accurately.  Would I buy future comics by this company?  Yes, but then I have a complete set of Gold Key comics.  I was hoping for art that was more along the lines of Innovation.

I've noticed that comic artists tend to draw whatever faces onto their characters that they feel like or feel comfortable with.  Once they get the general look for the comic that they want, accuracy in rendering faces or forms isn't emphasized.    When they leave a comic they'll tend to take their "faces" with them, and whoever takes over the comic uses his/her own favorite kinds of faces for those same characters.
