So Big Brother is watching .....heh? ;-)
Well, not quite. Given the way the system stores IMs, noticing mentions of myself while I was checking dates to see if any that I'd backed up were missing was pretty much unavoidable. For example, here's a copy of an IM I sent out to people who were using the forum just before I shut it down last night:

As you can see, the system stores who it was sent to, its title, the date and time it was sent, its text, an internal code to identify it, the sender's IP address (which I've replaced in the example with ?s), and another code that's actually useless for IMs (but which is used for posts to indicate whether or not a post is normal (1) or sticky (0) - it's only included in IMs because the same script that controls the posting of messages on the boards also controls the sending of IMs).

Bob (Who is also glad he wasn't doing any IM'ing the night in question :-)
LOL! But no one actually has to worry that either Midnite or I is reading their private messages. Besides the fact that there are way too many of them sent out every day for us to keep up with, we have NO desire to invade people's privacy. The ONLY reason I happened to catch the comments that I did was because I was trying to restore IMs that went missing after our hosts had to reboot the server. And hopefully something like that won't be happening again any time soon. And the only reason I publicly posted the info I did from the IMs I'd seen was because I wanted to joke with the people who'd made the comments. Believe me, they know who they are, and they know exactly why I did it. There was never any sort of malicious intent in what they'd said or in my letting them know I'd seen it.
