1968 DS View Master set
« on: November 05, 2016, 02:50:49 AM »
Fans,

This is a pretty cool presentation of the 1968 View Master set.  (I think the set may actually have come out in 1969, but the storyline shown was originally aired in the Fall of '68.)

Too bad the drawings in the "folio" were not included by whoever did this.  After all, the drawings were characterized by "many somber colors."

I remember them like it was yesterday, G.

I also remembering not knowing any of it because I started watching I well into 1897. And yet I still found it fascinating without understanding it. It's funny, I got to know most of the present day characters through merchandising and media before I actually got to see them performed in the actual show.

I remember seeing these in the store at the time but, for whatever reason, I didn't buy them. If I knew then....

I do remember attending one of the early Newark festivals, probably 1984, and a certain TPTB was selling photos that were blown up from the Viewmaster reels. Bootleg merchandise! For shame!

Even though it's copyrighted 1968, I didn't hear about the set until late 1970 when an acquaintance that knew I liked DS told me that ViewMaster had put out a set based on the "the Dark Shadows movie" (well, what did they know - they didn't really pay attention to DS). I was excited by that idea, but after I found it in a store that carried all sorts of ViewMaster sets, I wasn't the least bit upset that it actually covered a lot of the late 1968 storyline from the TV show because that was the period when overzealous parents groups in my area had gotten DS moved to 8:30AM ([hall2_angry]) and it was rare when I'd been able to catch it. (I did see the eps when Ang went to tattle on Nicholas, he was summoned before Diabolos, and Ang left Barn to die in the shack.) So I was quite glad that the set filled in a lot of what I'd missed.

Rather interesting that all of the images on the site say they are copyrighted by "View-MasterWorld".  Maybe the site owner does not understand copyright??
